Consider it a consolation prize?

I'll put it this way. I wanna pretend I know something about aerospace and whatnot because I work for an aerospace company. But at least it's software so there's that.

The B-52 Stratofortress is amazing to look at too. What a piece of machinery that is.

If you're ever in Ohio, try to check out the Wright-Patterson Air Force museum, just a bit south of Dayton. I've been able to stop there a couple times as I pass through the state.

They've got a B-2, F-117, one of the B-29s that bombed Japan, and so much more.

Takes a few hours just to see everything there, and they're still adding last time I was there.

Really cool place.

I know I'm 3 weeks late, but that Wright-Patterson Air Force museum is incredible! My favorite thing there was probably the XB-70 Valkyrie, the Mach 3 bomber that was canceled in favor of the B1. The on-base hanger was definitely the most incredible section, with the XB-70, X-15, and a bunch of other neat experimental military planes.

I don't particularly recall that section, but I didn't have quite enough time to stop and look at absolutely everything.

It is a really cool place.

So, I'm curious. What do you all think the odds would be for the time frame in which Delta starts operating some of it's A220-100s (formerly CS100) to a lower volume airport like HSV that it sends 717s and MD-88s to when it gets the first deliveries of the plane later this year/early next?

I presume a lot of these A220-100s/CS100s are slated to replace their entire MD-88 and MD-90 fleets, and on a whim. I'd wager, that Delta will likely hold on to the 717s for awhile longer but I'd imagine that Delta will likely be getting more A220-100s beyond their order of 75 planes in a few years from now. Honestly I kinda wanna see them get a few A220-300s too.

never saw this lmao

Delta mainly flies 717s from Atlanta to Huntsville, so they'll probably start flying A220s once they replace those, which probably won't be for another decade lmao

Speaking of noise levels, I recently got to fly in a Ford Trimotor, and the difference in cruise noise levels between a 1929 airplane and a 2000's airplane like the A320 wasn't really that noticeable. It'll be nice to have much quieter planes like the A320neo and A220.

Who knows, maybe the 797 might be on their radar too... Though being Canadian I still would love to see our C Series dominate the market.

Never understood why the US tariffed the CSeries. Had to sell a majority stake in the poor program to Airbus... Canadian taxpayers loaned A LOT of that money to Bombardier... interest free.

Thanks the US.

Yep. The major US airlines were never even interested in buying boeings 737 maxs. The C series arent even that similar. Cmon.

TYea. But I'm not sure it's because I'm bias since it's the first ever aircraft I've flown on (probably bias then). The proportions just look perfect at this angle. Was sad when this quad was replaced with the 777-300er on the YVR <-> HKG route.

797 is supposed to a replacement for 757s lol

Atlanta to Huntsville is a 1 hour flight and very lower volume. Like CRJs could fill the market well. But Delta makes it work with 717s and some MD-88s with scattered CRJs.

Also, odds are the A220-100 and -300 will replace the DC-9 based fleet [717, MD-80, MD-90]

797 will likely replace their 757s.

Delta is getting some A330neos apparently, those are to mostly replace older 777s and 767s

Are the A330 neos like confirmed? Because I know Hawaiian ended up bailing on the A330neo (and A350) even though it will seamlessly fit their operations as  pretty much an exclusive Airbus fleet.

I do find it interesting that instead of getting 787s or more A350s they went with some A330neos but yeah they're still getting their first one next year.

Was in one of the newish A380s and they're pretty neat. Relatively quiet I found, but not sure if that's an effect of cabin insulation or actual reduced noise output

If I'm honest I spend more time playing with the hardware than I do playing on the hardware

When it comes to aircraft all of my love and appreciation goes to the Grob G103 Twin II. I have the privilege of being able to fly one of these among other aircraft whenever I desire to. Each flight with one of these is nothing short of amazing especially when the weather plays nice.

I just discovered that if you are crazy rich and aren't worried about the safety of 40-year-old Soviet fighter, you can go 3.2 times the speed of sound, as a civilian. Turns out this Russian adventure company bought a MiG 25, and for just slightly more than 20,000 USD, you get a 30-35 minute flight at ~ Mach 2.8. The Mach 3.2 flight isn't standard, but it's listed on the website as a thing you can request, I'd imagine for quite a bit more money.
