Sound Bar options for Living Room (Mothers day gift)

Sorta a Last minute Idea for mothers day since she just got a new 4k TV ($430) for her living room but has no speakers for it. I'm not opposed to separate speakers if they're seriously worth it, but having a lower profile system would be ideal (for my mother at least since she's very keen on aesthetics and hates unsightly things) Dont worry, I had other things already lined up for Mothers day, I'm not THAT bad of a son  

 

I'd rather not spend over $200 since she isnt an audiophile by any means and the TV itself wasnt much more than that, but at the same time I dont want to just give a marginal improvement over the built in glorified phone speakers. I've seen the Yamaha YAS-107 mentioned a few times, and it's highly rated, in Amazon's electronic buyers guide, and can even get here the day before mothers day which is a huge plus. I just want to see if there's any other options I should look at before I pull the trigger. I have a best buy near me that has 10 available items in store, including this one from Polk Audio

Check out eBay, grab something from there. I got my roommate a $250 Samsung soundbar for $40.

New/sealed, of course.

It was less procrastination and more "She got this like three days ago and the speakers on it SUCK"

Does she really want a sound bar!? Most people don’t even care that much about sound. 

 

You could spend much less than $200 on a different and more appropriate gift.

I already have more appropriate gifts lined up (flowers and chocolate strawberries which she loves) and it's not one of those things where I'm disguising something I want under the notion of "I'm getting it for her" (i dont even watch TV anymore) 

 

She also had mentioned it before but dismissed it hinting that maybe for her birthday or Christmas we should get one. So it's definitely not something she doesn't want.

If you have a spare receiver then you can consider a passive sound bar from Dayton.

If you don't have a receiver then you probably can find one for cheap on craigslist.

Makes sense! I personally wouldn’t sweat it for Mother’s Day then. Because as someone said before, there are many sound bars on eBay and a great deal is just around the corner. It seems kinda foolish to buy one new at the full price.

Your gut instinct is usually the best choice, especially on a time crunch! I'd go with the Yamaha you found on Amazon, otherwise as you are looking to spend sub-200 bucks, just check out Best Buy's website and see what they have to offer, from the quick look I had at their soundbars, there's quite a few that are under 200 and also have 1k+ reviews.
