LGA 1151 questions

I was thinking of getting a i5 6600k to upgrade my old i5 3570k. The socket is LGA 1151 and overclockers.co,uk says the chip is good for Z170 chipsets. I was wondering if i was limited to Z170 or i could get a z270 (or better) board. Or is the z270 just  a performace upgrade and i can still use a Skylake processor

z270 boards can take 6th or 7th gen

6th gen CPUs will fit in both z170 and z270 (with a bios update for z270) motherboards.

 

However I don't recommend upgrading to a 6600k from a 3570k, buy a coffee lake (8th gen) CPU instead.

the 3570k ro 6600k isn't much of a upgrade. I'd go 8400-8600k and a matching board.

I agree with @App4that, unless you're getting the CPU for a great deal, don't bother with the upgrade, or go for the 8th gen CPUs and a motherboard that lets you lock in the turbo speeds (if you grab the 8400). Have you considered Ryzen?

I'm pretty sure that since Z270 came out after the 6600k, you don't need to have a BIOS update to use it ;)

Is this a good board? Because I am considering it for a build but it seems to good to be true.
