Just finished putting the PC together, what now?

After a very Long day (16 hours :D) it seems that I finally managed to get my PC running (msi gaming plus x370, ryzen 5 1600x, 2x8 rgb Trident 3200mhz, 1070 g1 gaming and SSD/HDD). Yes, RAM is only at 2133 while it could be at 3200, but at least it's running and I am typing this on the actual PC and not from a tablet.

 

I installed all Drivers (and some MSI Tools) from the msi Homepage for my MSI X370 gaming plus, I also installed the newest GTX 1070 Driver. Also the latest BIOS is on the Motherboard, so I THINK i covered all Drivers I had to update (not 100% sure however).

 

BUT I have a few worries/questions right now:

 

a) I have a SSD on which I installed Windows and a HDD that is intended to be storage. the HDD is not shown in the Explorer, however Hardware Manager and bios recognizes it and Show me a 2TB HDD aviable. What do I have to do to fix this?

 

b) how do I know I haven't missed any crucial Drivers for my Hardware?

 

c) how can I run and Monitor a few stresstests for my GPU/CPU to see if cooling is working? I am currently Holding myself back with doing anything stressful to the PC because I am scared to damage something? I got the MSI-CPU tracker and the GPU-Z, are there better Programms, especially to track both temperatures? Also, do I Need the ryzen master program to Monitor the CPU temperature?

 

d) how can I Control the LEDs on my Hardware? The MSI Gaming APP only allows me to Control the LEDs on the Motherboard (this question is the least important one, I don't really Need an answer on this one, others are way more important).

 

It's my first build I have finally finished, so if you have more advice, helpful Videos I could watch in Addition to the ones I have already watched or anything that can help me to get everything running well, feel free to post/share here with me. THANKS A LOT!

a) You have to format the drive. Search for diskmgmt.msc and you will find the format tool

 

b) I myself use Driver Booster from IOBit to get new drivers

 

c) For CPU there's AIDA64, fo GPU it's better to use GPU heavy games like Crysis 3

 

d) Not sure about the RAM, but the graphics card will need Gigabyte's own app

a) its probable not formatted. search for partition manager in windows and try to format the hdd.

b) not sure.

c) not sure 

d) depends on which hardware has the LED's. usually the manufacturers website of that hardware will have software

To start off:

 

A) you need to format the hard drive, this is easy to do and Puget Systems has a great vid on that for Windows 10: 

 

 

B) You'll know if you have issues, as long as you have all your motherboard and Nvidia drivers are downloaded and up to date you'll be fine. Also, doesn't hurt to check and update windows.

 

C) I would try Aida 64 and Cinebench, you won't wreck anything, this hardware can take abuse and stuff like that won't do anything to damage your system, if you have Steam also get FireMark free. All great tests that are free.

 

D) You'll have to see what software they use like if your graphics card has LED's it will use its own software, these can be downloaded from the manufactures website.

Congratulations on your new PC. 

Go to disc management and activate the HDD. Windows only shows the boot drive before you do that. 

Windows installs the drivers that are necessary. The important one is really just the driver for the GPU. 

I use CPUID Hardware Monitor to monitor everything. It shows the motherboard sensors, CPU voltage, fan RPM etc. As for programs, I like to use Prime95 and Furmark at the same time. That would put the maximum possible load on the CPU and GPU, as well as the PSU. Just make sure the components stay within a comfortable temperature. If not, tweak the fan curves in BIOS for the case and CPU fans, and in the GPU tweaking utility if your choice for the GPU fans. 

If you have Trident Z RGB RAM, G.skill has their own utility. For the Gigabyte GPU, you'll need Gigabyte's GPU tweaking thing. You should find it on Gigabyte's page for your GPU, under utilities/software. 

As for videos, Paulshardware 's video comes to mind. Also make sure to read the comments for anything he missed in the video

this Video/channel is probably one of the best I've found so far. Thanks for that link!

 

I guess everything aviable for the mobo is installed, so is the newest nvidia Driver. Also Windows is up to date according to it's own updater, so I'll Keep beliving that I'll be fine when it Comes to that, thanks for calming my mind! 

 

Guess it's time to run a few Benchmarks and after that see if everything is working. Thanks again for giving me the Programms I should use for that. Do those Programms track the temperature of each component themself or do I Need to run cpu/gpu Software while doing the Benchmarks?

 

Also are you sure that Firemark is on steam? A quick search didn't give me any this for it in the steam store. I found 3DMark Fire Strike, however this one doesn't download unless I have the 28€ 3DMark in my library since it's labeled as a DLC

Puget systems builds high-end computers and they have great tutorials, Linus actually went there recently for a tour! (Link below)

 

So on the side of updates and drivers you are good to go! You don't have to stay super on top of updates but every few months it is good to check and make sure you are up to date, a lot of these programs remind you of updates themselves anyways.

 

My bad I meant 3D Mark, and I am pretty sure there is a free download for it on Steam. I bought it but well before I had a free version of it. If not try the 3D Mark website and see.

 

Aida 64 is the only one that you have the option to run as long as you want and that will display temperatures, the other two will not, but are short enough tests that the temps don't get super high anyways. I would run CinebenchR15 first then run 3D Mark, from there run Aida64 for like 30 min and you will know you temps under heavy load after doing that. No need to run additional monitoring software during Cinebenc and Firemark though.

Aye, i know Linus' channel and love it.

 

New Problem did arise now: My Internet is superslow and the ping is extremly high (used speedtest.net for testing it). I used to have 10 ping and 16mb/s, now it only runs at like 110ms and 2mb/s. Did i miss installing a Network Driver or do I Need to install that MSI gaming lan or whatever it's called? Oo

There is possibly a network driver haha, check and see if there is, if so get it. If it is still an issue let us know haha!

I do Need the LAN-Driver for that one, right? Because that's one of the first I actually downloaded and installed because I wanted to download the other Drivers quicker.

 

Edit: Yeah, just downloaded the latest Driver from the realtek site and now have my 16 mb/s. Thanks a lot.
