How does 'music' count as 'credit' if I want to go to an art school?

AniJan

My mom forces me to do clarinet because it'll be used as 'credit' when I go college, therefore it's absolutely essential to do. I don't quite understand this because my goal is to go to an art school to learn animation, so how does this prove to be relevant in my path? I really don't want to do clarinet and I was planning on quitting when I came to California, but every time I give a hint of quitting, she gives me the guilt speech. "Are you going to quit 4 years of experience and money go to waste?"

+I don't have a clarinet tutor right now. I'm on my own.

I doubt you'll get any credits for it, though it heavily depends on the school you want to go to.

If you don't want to play clarinet, then don't.

Anyway, in all seriousness, lots of Art schools will value any type of creative art, including music instruments.

If it comes down to you vs another guy for admission, and all else being equal, you can play the clarinet and he cannot. You get the spot, he doesn't.

With that in mind, that's a very specific (and unlikely) scenario.

I don't think there is such a thing as getting credit for knowing how to play a instrument. There might be a course that teaches clarinet that you could immediately test out of but you would still have to pay tuition for the credits.

Huh? I'm not going to college yet. I have a long way to go until I reach submissions.

This is a question that you should field to the admissions or recruitment offices at the school you want to apply to, not an internet forum.  They literally have people at those school's who's JOB is to answer these kinds of questions so as to entice you to pay them tuition money.

You realize that admissions and recruitment offices are for PROSPECTIVE students, right?  As in 'Hi, I'd like to go to you school maybe, I have questions I need you to answer.'?

Like how you don't have to BUY a car at a car dealership and ask questions about the car you're interested in.  They love answering questions... Because it helps them to convince you to buy the car, but you don't actually have to BUY the car.

Well, this is just a simple question. I think it's more easier for me to ask a simple question like this here rather than confronting an advisor, if that makes sense.

Admission requirements and what academic achievements are looked at vary school to school and even program to program within a given school.  So no, it's not actually easier for you to ask here, because no one here can likely give you an answer.
