Need Help

I need a good laptop that is under 1200 U.S.D and preferably a lenovo thinkpad for durability and somewhat easy ram and storage upgrade ability and good for CAD and 3D rendering.

I would actually get a decent gtx 1060 laptop with a quad core i7.  You need that extra power.

as above something with a 1060 would be a good way to go, nothing less than a 4core. personally id get a desktop for CAD over a portable device, but if you are going for portability...lenovo is good, nice designs, but maybe something like a ASUS if you can (doesn't have to be gamery, just something with good power.)

depends what...it's the same thing saying you can edit videos on a duo core i5. just that there 720p and minimal editing involved.

I guess you have experience with that but I found working on a 6700hq a crappy experience, maybe desktop CPUS have spoiled me.

How you get around that is setting your preview to 1/4th or lower and you just edit. Premiere will run on just about anything. 

 

That being said my dual core MBP has no problem editing 1080p the full preview resolution with color correction and variations of cuts, and layers.

the argument is the same as me saying, duo cores can run my excel models just fine, but i hate performance and want less for my money so I'm not getting a quad core or a GPU. Cause fuck it. 

 

A Dell 7567 will outedit the shit out of any duo core 100% all the time because Primere has 0 software optimization and is entirely reliant on hardware. Same thing applies to CAD. Exactly ZERO profession CAD software is optimized for Mac OS so it's entirely hardware reliant again. There is 0 reason to get a sub performing laptop when he can get a great performing one that will meet his present and future needs.

Exactly where did I say he should get a MacBook? Even If I did the only MacBook he could afford would be the MacBook Air.

this is the statement i'm challenging. just cause you can edit things on duo cores doesn't mean it's optimal or even enjoyable. there are reasons why people more powerful laptops for CAD. Not everyone likes to deliberately gimp themselves.

I don't get how you still don't get what I'm saying. Firstly there are 3 major platforms in the world. Linux is primarly for coders and programmers. Mac and WIndows are left. If a program is not optimized for MacOS, it means that it's entirely hardware reliant. Hence you need more hardware to run the program. CAD has 0 programs optimized for MacOS. Hence he needs better hardware to run CAD applications. 

 

Hence your argument that it runs fine on a duo core is both ignorant and unnecessary. he should get as much hardware as he can to run \as most optimally he can.

I dont think you know how powerful dual core CPUs can be. Most games only use 2 cores anyway.
