Massdrop 3440x1440 34" Qdot 100hz+Freesync Curved Ultrawide Monitor $649 USD

Zyndo

title says it all.. .the Samsung C34F791is currently on massdrop for a pretty low pricetag. this thing usually retails above $900 USD (although amazon currently has them for a little over $800)... but massdrop has it on for a mere $649 USD (with free shipping in the US). I've no input on how good this monitor is or isn't, but I thought I would share this remarkable deal with you guys in case anyone here was looking to get into a high refresh rate ultrawide without coughing up well over $1000 for an X34 or PG348Q. This monitor has FreeSync, but should work well with any Nvidia card nontheless. The drop has 4 days remaining, although they don't always last as long as they say they will.

Good luck to anyone interested!

You have to wait for Vega to be able to game on that monitor... Right now there aren't any AMD cards that can push 3440x1440@100Hz

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

its not like the monitor would fail to work an Nvidia GPU... you just wouldn't be able to make use of the Freesync feature, which isn't a big deal if you have something like a 1080ti, or even if you have a weaker Nvidia card now as you can always upgrade to AMD down the road, whereas this monitor won't be around forever at this price.

Besides, the entire point of adaptive refresh rate technology is to allow you to run below your monitors maximum refresh rate without tearing or issues caused by V-sync... so being able to hit 100hz isn't even a requirement of having the Freesync functionality anyway. If anything, the freesync feature works "better" with a Fury X or RX 580 than it would on a Vega card haha

Fury, maybe or the fury x.

Just wondering, is that some weird resolution of 2k for wider monitors?  As for the setting that depends on the game, not just the resolution. xD

It's the standard resolution for 1440p ultrawide 21:9.

1440p but just wider.

And when someone talks about settings it is implied that you're talking about the intensive triple A titles.

Obviously if it can run those at low or medium it will be able to run all the other less intensive games at higher settings.

Just because it is AAA doesn't mean that the graphics are that intensive.  COD was milking a dated engine for quite some time, and probably is doing it again.  If it were something on the latest idtech or unreal engine then ya....that's where it would get graphically intense in terms of a AAA.

ON AVERAGE you will not be playing the latest triple A games at high or ultra settings with that card. How hard is that for you to understand??

I do play Doom and others at 2k, but not saying 100hz/fps.  Also, it would only be the more intensive ones that wouldn't hit that high based on their engine and what not.

We're talking about a 3440x1440 100Hz monitor here, not a 1440p 60Hz monitor.

No a fury or fury X will not be able to play the latest games on high or ultra at that resolution while maintaining above 100fps.

I don't know why you're even arguing about this, maybe you're upset that your 2 year old card isn't as good as a 1080ti or something?

Reasonable deal if you want a white momo

Funny thing is, add the words "HDR" to the title and suddenly it costs 2.5x more

THat is not really a special deal, they had a discount on official Samsung page last week, it was $600-$700 iirc.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

Even though the monitor has Freesync, it can still be used with an Nvidia GTX 1080Ti and vertical sync, no?

yes absolutely. the only thing you would lose out on is the variable refresh rate functionality. everything else about the monitor would work totally fine.
