If the card were to fail due to use, it would be considered defective anyway.

Actually, communities that regularly use compute applications (3d rendering being an example) would probably happily buy discount mining cards that gamers wouldn't otherwise touch. Odds are, compute applications would function just as well as mining, as mining is just a gpgpu application.

As a folder I cant wait for these cheap second cards to hit the market in a year or two. Especially the mining cards as they will be cheap af if enough people buy them up! Also, don't forget the likes of crossfire and physX, external uses and of cause the possibility that someone will mod them to work with some kind of output(unlikely but you never know).
