Remove MOTOR from fan

H0R53

I have a proprietary Dell CPU fan that is required for an SFF system. The red wire was ripped off by an angry client and I need to solder a new one on, and these fans are expensive. The only problem is that I can't seem to remove the motor itself to get to the power leads.

Any suggestions?

Red wire is completely stripped off? Not just cut in two?

Using something like Belarc (belarc.com) would show you the exact motherboard that you have in your system.  With that information we could hopefully find a pic somewhere that would show what your mobo looked like.  Or, if you could take a close up picture of your motherboard and post it along with the information on make and model from Belarc it would be extremely helpful.  As for removing the fan, somehow it got put in there in the beginning, so there has to be a way to remove it.  Will just take a real close examination of the pics.

Completely ripped off.

you can normally get to the solder point wihtout taking the fan apart, but if you can't

Take the sticker off.

Then take the clip off at the back of the bearing.

Then the blades come right off(just pull out)

Then you can get to the motor stator and board.

Maybe someone like @Electronics Wizardy might have some idea?

The fan has already been removed from the case. Lol. Not a noob here. I literally need to remove the MOTOR from the FAN itself. Int he title.

It's under the board between the plastic and the PCB. I already took the blades off.

thats gonna be a pain. The board is normally molded into the plastic and a complete pain to get out in one peice. You can try to pry it out is your best hope.

This is just an example, not the actual fan. I can't get a good angle with my camera to show the problem.

soldering it from the back is you best option, anything else is a huge pain. You can cut away a bit of plastic to make it easier if you need to. I have soldered some nasty wires that have fallen out.

All of the leads are completely under the plastic base.

Ah, shit. It snapped off. I can probably use Gorilla Glue, that's what I used for my custom 1050 to mount the LED fan. One sec.

Well on my test fan you can just pry the controller out and the stator once the blades are out. This one didn't have glue. But many do. IMG_1485.thumb.JPG.60eac418b1c84c5680309c7bad4a339d.JPG

Yeah, this is a Dell fan, so it's fucking glued to all hell.

You have nice fingers. No homo. Mine are all scarred and veiny.

I think I have too much solder on it...

yep. Solder is like thermal paste. The internel will always argue about how much is right.

id also cut those leads much shorter and resolder, there is just way to much exposed to touch.

Yeah, I did that just now. I also put gorilla glue on and am letting it sit for a bit. Thanks for your help, I'll pop the next one under a heat gun to loosen it up.

I remember JayzTwoCents did a video where he slathered the whole CPU and socket in thermal paste lol

not enough paste. I did the mineral oil pc with thermal paste.
