R9 280 vs gtx 1060 6GB

Hi guys,

 

I just found a MSI gtx 1060 6GB gaming X for about 190 euro and I was wondering... should I upgrade my gigabyte r9 280 @1150MHz/6GHz after almost 4 years? (with some liquid ultra PRO, cause I love it) I would gt about 50% more performance and lower power-draw and more VRAM. 

 

What is your opinion?

 

P.S.: Does anybody want to buy my old r9 280??? I would hate to just box it up, cause I have been keeping good care of it. (well, I have been parenting it like it was one of my own ).

Does your 280 still play your games? 

 

My R9 380 plays AAA games no problem at 1080p 

 

Also something like an RX 580 would be a better value when they are in stock again.

If you have the money you should. Also, where did you find that 1060 for 190?

Why don't you buy the 1060 and set your 280 to be a mining card? PSU permitting, of course.

It is used, but it still has 3 years of warranty, but still... the cheapest MSI one I could find brand new was like 290euro so 190 seams like a great deal.

This... well I could sell my r9 280 for like 70 euros. It is heavily overclocked, but thanks to the Liquid ultra pro, it never goes above 69°C at 40% fan speed.

Then go for it. 3 years of warranty is safe for a new used products (hope this isn't too confusing), not to mention that it costs 2/3 the price of a new one.

OP buys the 1060, plays with the 1060. 

OP puts the 280 up for sale and mines while waiting for a buyer. 

 

Either way, OP can make some more money on his GPU's by using them while he has them. 

 

Also, if a 970 gets 18MH/s on Ethereum, the 1060 should get about the same or more making it and the 280 a good pair for mining.

I would see what the hashrate is on the 280 for Ether. Use a calculator to see what kinds of profits you can expect and how long it would take to achieve said profit.
