sub 60 FPS in world of warcraft GTX 1080 1080p

So, In the most recent raid in wow on ultra settings I am getting around 30 fps in high intensity fights.  However, neither my CPU nor my GPU are maxing out.  My 4790 is at about 50 and my 1080 is only at 35.  What's going on?  V-Sync is OFF.

I can help with programming and hardware.

Have you tried clearing the game's caches and updates?

WoW isn't able to use enough threads.  It's highly CPU-bound.

I'm having this problem in quite a few games thus last week or so. 7700k & 1070 here. 1080p gaming. RES monitor shows action but graphs on after burner show dips in all sections every 2-5 minutes in a lot of games.

@huilun02 @Droid8Apple @Purgent  here is a link to a video of whats happeneing with graphs.  My CPU is not being maxed, so that isn't the problem.

Have you tried disabling your addons and checking?

Your CPU not being maxed doesn't mean WoW doesn't have a threading issue.

 

It's a pretty well known fact that instances, raids, and high pop locations causes frame rates to tank and GPU usages to drop. This is extremely common in most MMOs.

 

The first sign of a CPU bottleneck is GPU usage dropping.

 

There was a recent issue with the WoW client dropping frames more than it should in 7.0 and 7.1. Deleting the cache folders seemed to help a number of people gain more frames. But that doesn't mean you won't see your GPU usage drop in high pop/intensity areas if you do clear the cache folders.

Do you have Windows 10 with "game mode" turned on? If so try disabling it.
