Logistics of Internet Cafes

newgeneral10

Hello,

I recently watched this LTT video on the deaths in internet cafes.

This really intrigued me and then I started to think about how someone could make their own version of this here in America (or wherever really...).  There has to be a ton of logistics behind the scenes here.  Like how do they keep track of who has what games downloaded?   Are there roaming profiles set up and each member gets a unique username?  This would necessitate some sort of file server I would imagine.

A lot of these kinds of things were glossed over in the video and I was curious as to what you guys think you would need to get something like this up and running, relatively from scratch.

P.S. I have no idea what subforum this would belong to so don't hate me please

Just run it on AD, that doesn't almost everything. Then you can store all the files on the server.

Then store the games locally and reimage them when needed.

games downloaded:

should be all predownloaded, steam ones like csgo should have the user login to their account and log out when they're using it

if its not downloaded already, request for it to be downloaded, will be deleted after the user is finished

now, I would assume you cant do anything with the pc other than launch game (everything is disabled, that sort of thing)

each user gets his own computer spot I would assume, and can only login to that one (user profile setup on that with windows, something with workgroups I assume)

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

There are actual cafe software suites. And special license server packages from most big publishers for them. I looked into getting in on the action about 10 years ago. IT was fledgling then for gaming. Just a few options. But they would tie local accounts with POS and rental time, and could load games through Steam, Blizzard, etc. from a central server. It takes some doing but the actual backbone is a pretty simple operation

The one near me, is gone now, middle-to-high class neighborhood. It lasted for a few years. It was a decent size, like 50 computers. It seemed busy everytime I went. Ages from 10 on up, the majority were 20's to 30's. It always amazed me to see grown adults giggle and laugh like man childs. Its funny looking back on it now, at the time I was confused, always wondered why they did that. It still is odd to me to see grown men do that.

Now its funny because the only other decent one run with fluent enlish speaking counter staff is up in the poor slums, the other is run by some Chinaman not far, a few kilometers, but it too is in the shitty part of town. Real bad area up there.

Computers are cheap.
