My directory title says "Network Consulting Engineer" but that's pretty broad. I'm actually a test engineer in Solution Validation Services for a certain networking company

We take customer proposed designs, mock them up, and then try to push it to the limits, see what works and doesn't, etc. One example of something I've worked on is helping migrate a customers network from standard spanning tree to a VxLAN network. We tested their existing network design on the new code, then did migration testing, followed up by testing on the new design.

I get to work with tons of networking towers and Spirent traffic generation tools in my day to day job. On one project we pumped about 500Gb/s of traffic through a network and then did a snake test to peg the backplane of a single box out at ~1.2Tbps. I've done everything from 4G validation, basic platform/code testing, design validation, migration testing, and security testing.

I feel you on that FAA paperwork my friend. I have been an aircraft line service technician for nearly 20 years. I service, fuel, and ready the business jets the tycoons use to fly around. The last six years or so though I began doing flight coordination for business jets. Basically I get the call and set up the flights for the customers for where and when they want to go. I also hold a private pilots license with some instrument time.

I run a lab / environment for developers. Most of my actual work is networking or VMware related, but the people I support do really cool things! If I'm nice and social they show me all the cool new toys.

I work for an AV Hire/Production company, i maintain, repair, deploy and hire-prep a fleet of about 300 machines ranging from macbooks, dell precisions, media server cabinets, and video blending racks. So basically my entire life is, installing windows, running Ccleaner, using clonezilla, phone activating microsoft office, testing PPT's that i know god damn well will run on my precision 7510's but the retard clients worry it's "too heavy", watching progress bars, torrenting to a ludicrous degree through the glorious company internet, and drinking coffee.

 

 

I run an internet cafe / pc repair shop / do server backups for certain companies once a month and a few other side projects. Nothing too interesting really, but it feeds and is enjoyable.

I am a software engineer at that big blue german software company competing with Oracle in the area of business software. Since I spent 5 years there as a student before starting of as a "proper employee" I've worked at many different things, ranging from mere concepts and studies, loads and loads of testing of all sorts, back-end development, UX / design, frontend, etc. Just started as a front-end developer tasked with design, data modeling, UI & app development (Web) as well as various QM topics. Fun job, even though I'm still in the middle of learning the ropes and probably will be for another few months... Surprisingly few lines of code being written but rather modeling and aggregating the required data and annotating it with metadata so that resulting app can be mostly generated. Pretty interesting stuff, but vastly different from hacking together some HTML, JS and CSS over the weekend to get that website for your friends uncles store up and running
