Amazon/Newegg to Australia (Cheaper)

SammoFS

If you're an Australian like me, You're pulling out hair from the stress of high prices, Welp Worry no more. (Yes Yes I know this sounds cheesy and a lot of you already know this xD but I thought I'd share it for people to see, like new people etc.)

So.. Lets say a RX 470(4GB) card was $239 in aud on pcpartpicker from a store, I've found the same card on amazon for $164.99 USD, which currently (6:24PM AEDT 24/2/17) converts to $213.91 AUD Which Is obviously Cheaper. Now you have shipping. But for this card, It's Free shipping. This is probably the best option to go with I guess.. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still kinda new to this :).

PcPartPicker link: http://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/PVWrxr/asus-radeon-rx-470-4gb-strix-video-card-rog-strix-rx470-4g-gaming

EDIT: AMAZON DOES NOT SHIP FREE TO AUSTRALIA.

Don't forget you will need to pay import fees in most cases if you buy from a different country.

hey,

I'd say take the free shipping..make sure it's on overseas orders. Should be cool but if it's a certain price then there's some international duty...or tax on your stuff coming in that your responsible for.

Take a good exchange rate and use it. I moved to America in the noughties and got hit with an exchange rate of less than fifty cents in the dollar...that sucked royally.

Rogueone.

You need to know that:

  • For goods that are worth equal to or under AUD1,000, there are no duties, taxes or charges to pay.
  • For goods that are worth more than AUD1,000, you will need to fill out a special form called an Import Declaration, and pay duties, taxes and charges.
  • You will need to pay duties and taxes on some goods (like tobacco or alcohol)regardless of their value
  • Certain types of goods are not allowed to be brought into Australia, or else need special permits.

So no fees i guess (YIPEEE)

I did a similar thing when I ordered parts for my PC, saved about ~$300 or so. Only thing is that I believe import laws may be changed soon so you would have to pay import fees.

That is the one problem with it, warranty. You will just have to check the stores return policy and manufacturer warranty.

I agree that it can be a little more risky then buying locally, but if you do the research on stores return policy and the manufacturer warranty you should be fine. This isnt a very good example, look at more expensive parts and you will start to see the savings. As I said, I saved about ~$300 or so buying from the US.

Dont, I think the key message is fine. The example isnt the greatest (You will see the savings more with more expensive parts), but you can save a significant amount of money if you do a little research.
