GTX 1070 or RX 480?

My specs:

i5 4th gen

16GB RAM

GTX 960

750W PSU

What card should I get? I know the 480 is cheaper but would paying more for the 1070 be worth it?

If you have the money for it, go for it. Alternatively, you could keep your 960 until Vega comes out. Whether Vega is better or not, the 1070 price should drop a bit.

Im using a RX 480 and Its not that bad, The 1070 is better though.

If you do get a RX 480 don't go for a stock model (As I did), Get a aftermarket cooler because they do like to heat up a lot!

Wow this was old as heck, Need to update this signature!

AMD's timeline states end of 2016, beginning of 2017.

There was a working Vega prototype at the last AMD event.

Shouldn't be too far off.

What resolution is your monitor?

27" at 1080p doesn't look very nice.

But for 1080p, RX 480 is enough to get you 60fps.

If you have 144HZ monitor, and want more than 60fps, you should concider GTX 1070.

Also if you plan to upgrade to 1440p in near future, better get GTX 1070.

RX 480.

I bought a GTX 1070 ZOTAC AMP! EXTREME. My monitor is only 1080p 60hz.

I somewhat regretted buying the 1070. So I went and sold it yesterday. Bought an XFX RX 480 8Gb instead.

I felt that I wasn't really utilizing the 1070's max performance on my 1080p monitor. And I didn't have any plans on upgrading my monitor soon (1440p).

And one more thing, Freesync monitors are cheaper than G-syncs. So there's that added bonus (somewhat).

Know your priorities first before purchasing a card.  Paying for something that's more than what you need is a waste of money.

Cheers.

for TV that's okay

But for monitor that you are like 50cm away ... that's not great resolution. In my opinion 1080p should be only up to 24". Any bigger screen need better resolution.

I also have TV at home, that is around 48" and it's also 1080p ... more than enough, because I'm sitting like 3m away from it. And there are also no movies in 1440p or 4K in my country. The best movie resolution that I have find is 1080p.
