GTX 1080 now or wait until Vega/1080 Ti release?

So I have determined that I can finally afford to upgrade my GPU and want your opinions on what I should get. I'm also planning on upgrading my monitor a little bit later to either 144Hz gaming monitor or going with a higher resolution but I still haven't decided on that either

The 4690K is currently overclocked to 4.4GHz as well.

 

I haven't been following the GPU market that much lately so I'm kind of out of touch with what is going on so any opinions would be much appreciated.

We don't know for sure the 1080 Ti is real and we don't know what Vega's performance will be. You have to decide if you want to wait and see.

 

One thing you might notice on a 4690k is a bit of CPU bottlenecking in CPU power hogs like we are seeing these days, so keep that in mind when upgrading.

If you're looking to go 144 Hz and a higher resolution (1440p i presume) then waiting is probably the best idea since nothing really does that right now with the 1080 closer to 80 fps usually. With Vega potentially having a January release I think it would be a good idea to wait and at the very least the 1080 will get a price drop since there will be competition at that time.

Wait for the 1080Ti if you have the budget for it. Don't expect it to be cheap though.

Plus the 490 is supposed to be teased next week. Might as well wait at least that long.

I always prefer waiting if a party is less than 3 months away(I  am assuming they would release at CES)  for 2 reasons

1) new release MIGHT be awesome

2) parts do see a price drop

This is your answer here. I have a 980, am always thinking whether I should get a 1080 now or wait.

 

All I have to do is play a game and see that I'm still getting good frames at 1440p and almost maxing most games still. No need to upgrade until the performance you have doesn't feel like enough, which is subjective and different to each person.

I'd definitely be waiting to see what Vega is like seeing as you already have a solid GPU. Even if it isn't what you're after, it'll hopefully force Nvidia to drop their prices at least a little bit. The current 1080 prices, at least in my country, are an absolute joke.
