Basically, Google thought Microsoft's Tay was a good idea (remember https://www.reddit.com/r/Tay_Tweets/), and at the same time thought they could outsmart trolls. They have an AI that will supposedly filter out all the hatespeech (ranging from "You are such a bitch" to, presumably a lot more racist comments). And it's all open source (eventually? can't find the sourcecode anywhere just yet). It was supposedly trained on 17 million comments on New York Times articles as well as 13,000 discussions on Wikipedia. And, Wikipedia is reportedly looking into how they can use it (Great, more narrative control and censorship potential)

 

And, even right off the bat, in a private demo room, it was easily fooled

It is a ploy against it, changing up various racial slurs to innocent company names, like Google, and Skype and other things that Google can't filter.

HAHAHAHAHA gotta love the internet. Just due to its sheer size there will always be someone who will think of just the right way to counter a problem. This coupled with the anonymity is the true power it has. Also, fuck censorship. You don't like something someone has to say? Ignore him. lol, the worst part is. Unless google takes extreme measures, google will throw a roit and trash their office. skype will be devastated as all the insurance money will have to be paid out, but collecting it from google will be impossible as they are far too poor.

Why should a word be banned, when it only pertains to a certain race, whilst other words, while bad and considered rude, are not banned at all?

"Have no place in society". We have the right to free speech. It doesn't matter if someone is a neonazi or a racist, he has a right to express his opinion freely and I will defend that no matter what. When you take away that right from some people then you become just as bad as the ideas they express. That is not democracy. Besides, I do not see how having such opinions very public is bad. They will only get ridiculed from sensible people. If the society is affected by such stupid ideas, then the problem lies within the society rather than those ideas.
