CSGO fps problem

Hi guys, I have i3 2120 and gtx 1060 along with 8gb of ram. 2 weeks ago I used to have gtx 650 ti. I play CSGO most of the time. My fps on high settings at 1080p would be around 150 on average. Now even upgrading to gtx 1060 i am getting same fps. I know that my i3 bottlenecks but sure it's not that bad. What's causing this? I have tried lowering down the settings and the fps would be same. Or on highest settings still same.

Really the only explanation is a hardware bottleneck somewhere if it's pretty much the exact same. It would be helpful to list the rest of the parts.

Your i3 is a terrible bottleneck. i3s are shit for GPUs like the 1060/480

I know but my friend is using i3 4130 with gtx 660. He is getting >200 fps. I know there isn't much difference between i3 2120 and i3 4130.

i3 4130 is 40% faster than your i3 2120.

If i3 would be a bottleneck then games like witcher 3, battlefield 4, fallout 4 would also run on low fps. But they are running on ultra. My other specs: 

HDD: 1tb 7200rpm

PSU: corsair VS 450 watts

Asrock h61m-vs3 mobo.

1 - your PSU is utter shit
2 - you have a bottleneck because CS:GO needs a LOT more CPU horsepower than GPU horsepower. You are also getting bottlenecked in those games, am 100% sure of it.

Well what you think doesn't matter. Facts state otherwise. Ivy was 15% above Sandy, Haswell is another 10% on top of that. Add in clockspeed differences - you're looking at 30-40% more from the Haswell i3.

PSU is just fine. and even with the bottleneck I shouldn't be getting same fps. Try to understand. The other games like witcher 3 would run on 10 fps on ultra settings with gtx 650 ti but now it runs at 50 fps.

I think a CPU + PSU upgrade is the best here.

I know. I am gonna upgrade to i7 6700k in 2-3 months. But PSU is just fine.

50fps is low for a 1060. You should be getting 60-70 in that game. And what you are describing is the very definition of bottleneck. Your i3 was bottlenecking the 650 Ti in CS:GO as well.

Corsair VS are low-end office units from CWT. They are not capable of SAFELY powering a system with a 6700K and 1060 in a warm environment.

Csgo is incredibly cpu intensive if you open task manager youll probaly see 100 percent cpu and like 45 percent Gpu

hmm. Now I get it. You mean to say that i3 with gtx 650 ti was bottlenecking in csgo too. OK. So this makes me sad. I have to upgrade my cpu.

Those games are much more graphically intensive so a CPU bottleneck is less noticeable. In CSGO the GPU is able to put out a really high framerate since it's not that hard to create each frame. In situations like that the CPU becomes the limiting factor as it can't serve up information to the GPU quick enough.

 

If you wanted to see the bottleneck on those other games you'd need to set everything to the lowest settings graphically and then test each GPU.

Edit: For CS:GO a i5-6600K is gonna be overkill.

PSU first. Check with @STRMfrmXMN 's whitelist. The VS series are low end junk and not suitable for a rig like yours. They are meant for office PCs and word processing, not gaming.

I can't find VS series there. It's not mentioned. I want a solid proof before upgrading.

Exactly. VS are NOT good units. Just ask him or @Aniallation. He also had a Tier list and the VS were at the very bottom of the PSU tier list. Something like a SeaSonic M12II EVO or Antec High Current Gamer would be a good upgrade. They are modular and affordable. 520W is all you will need.

@don_svetlio is definitely right, VS units are good for office PCs and that's about it. Go for PSUs he mentioned or something like a EVGA G2 550W would be also perfect.

SeaSonic M12II EVO is affordable. I can't find the Antec one here in India. But Seasonic seem to be good deal. When I will upgrade, I will buy this too.

I think corsair should discontinue their cx and vs lineup. Newbies are like 'omg that's a corsair psu for so cheap since it's corsair it should be really good' and fast forward 2 years their house has burned down
