Read my second edit, you missed it.

Really, nothing to see with pixel density as i said.

With increased pixel density, you see less of the issue/anomaly because the pixels are smaller.

TAA didn't change your pixel density (of course), it's just a better/more effective method of AA filtering. So using TAA + increased pixel density should come very close to eliminating the issue.

I have been saying, multiple times, all along, that what a lot of people have been complaining about in these threads are normal graphical anomalies related to limited pixel density vs the level of detail in the game that is trying to render. I have also said; the only proper way to avoid such anomalies is to upgrade to a display with higher pixel density. ;)

Check this thread : https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/831430/pixelated-shadows-texture-popins-gtx-960-970-980-ect

You will see that many people had no problem before the change of graphics card.

As i said, checking it a point blank range (in skyrim, going close to a wall and looking at flickerinf texture):

All AA does some strange dot flickering, some dots appears and desappears on texture. But:

-On all AA, except TAA, they are really big (i mean the square flickering).
-On TAA they become so little, you can't near not see it if you don't know what you search.

I don't want to "force" on R7 because it is not mine, so i do not capture vidéo with it.

But i will try to explain it with my uncredible paint capacity :D

So on my picture, imagine the two dots are 100% scaled.
On all AA, those dots are flickering , they appears and desappears on all textures, particulary on edges.
You can understand why all other AA looks so bad VS TAA.

I don't know why it does this, and, i play often with a friend, he doesn't have suche big flickering on same game ( he leaves 1 km away, so, pretty easy to check).

I had r9 390x (got the bug with r9 290x and r7 370, less with r7 as i said), he has r9 280X, so near the same drivers.

EDIT: ahah missing the thing i want to explain: I think AA does not work preoperly, TAA does. So, something must block AA somewhere on the computer (i think it is softaware because i changed near all pieces of the computer).

PS: sorry if my english is bad, again, i'm french, it must be unclear sometimes, no?

Hello Guys, I just want to share how I got rid of this problem or if not totally now it's way less noticeable and starting to enjoy games again. Mine started when I upgraded my card from MSI 1070 Gaming X to MSI 1080 Gaming X using Dell U2715H 1440p monitor 4mos ago and have been really stressed when I notice the very same issue everybody else is experiencing in this thread. Spent a lot money trying to fix the issue upgrading from old skylake to kabylake build now i7 7700 paired with Asus Strix z270 16gb ram including new power supply and ups but the issue is still there. So I decided to downgrade my graphics card to 1070 where I last remember not having this issue and this time I picked same brand as the board Strix 1070 OC installed the latest driver applied my usual NVCP setting started testing games and boom noticed a huge difference it was beauty compared to when I was trying all sort of NVCP settings and NV inspector profile setting with the 1080. I'm sharing this because I want to let the others know that the issue is real, yea now some aa problems are still present but not like when I have the 1080 I'm not recommending to change your hardware config like what I did there's no assurance it's going to fix yours cause I'm not even sure how it got fixed. But games are now immersive and playable.

So you have same kinds of results as me.

R9 back to seller, so, friend give me a r7... Less jaggy/flicker.

Did you sell back the 1080? Did you test it on another computer (same with 1070?).

It could be good to test it with someone having same issues but with another manufacturer.

EDIT:

Seller propose me http://www.materiel.net/carte-graphique/sapphire-radeon-r9-fury-nitro-tri-x-oc-4-go-hbm-133004.html this card.

I think it is better but 4Go less memory... I really can't state on this, some help is welcome. (i had r9 390x OC 8gb nitro from sapphire)

That is a good card. Definitely better than what you have now and had before. Yeah it's only 4GB Vram, but it's HBM. It doesn't become a bottleneck as severely as it does with GDDR5. ;)

To go back on our troubles.

I made this vidéo sometimes ago about my troubles.

The strange thing is, when i look back at it, flickering desapeared at  90%...

Is it due to buffering or something? (ESO is heavy on GPU ressources)

I allready saw on other vidéo it hides the bugs a lot.

But compare with this one:

Same computer and GPU. But you can see easly the flickering around and behind the plane (and  a strange LOD or blur effect on plane's cables).

I did sell the 1080 and no I haven't tried it on another computer but I tried it on a friend's house 30km away from home and got the same shitty result using their TV then I also tried last weekend the 1070 and it's even way better than my 1440p monitor. So yea when I downgraded to 1070 it fixed mine I'm thinking maybe just maybe there is some sort of HW incompatibility that fucks up the SW side like having DDR5 vs DDR5X on different HW configurations.

In english, i managed to get a Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ Limited Edition - 8 Go in replacement.

So i really think something is wrong, but, as long as not enough people talk about it, they just change the GPU and voila.

GPU changed, i can say it is less flickering, like with R7.

So, i think some GPU may make your gaming experience worst.

It is better, not perfect but better.

I will bought a Nintendo Switch next week and let's see if the problem is eletrical.

I'll test it first in portable mode, then I'll watch it on TV.

I don't know where is the problem.

I still have it with the new GPU, but, less...

I stopped some games where i can't play without killing my eyes. I need to see a doctor for my eyes too, pretty sure it is related.

It is in french (use google traduct):

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplopie

I think it is part of my own troubles, when you got this, all contrast can be "doubled". So if a little flickering is here, you get it a lot more! For example, when i read subtitle in some movies, i can see a "ghost" replica of the subtitle under it. BUT:

Any one who see my screen can see them when i show them where they are (they can see the flickering alone too, depending the game). That's why i think eyes trouble can have an impact on this and drive us mad.

But if it was an eye problem, using TXAA or increasing resolution in some games would still be the same.

When playing Skyrim: SE with TXAA is almost perfect. But if I turn it off, it's impossible to play.

Overwatch I can play, but only if I increase the resolution. But still, it looks horrible.

No,

The trouble i talk about is linked with contrast. So if an AA got some trouble with flickering, it plays on contrast/lights, and with the eyes trouble, it is even worst.

I really think we are to sensitive about it, and for my part, i know i have the trouble i linked before.

I'm sure something goes wrong software, but, i'm sure we are too sensitive about it, and for my case, it is linked with my eyes trouble.

Hello guys I'm new to the forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong but all of you are looking for a fix for flickering shadows but is there any fix for texture popin and lod shadow box? I'm experiencing issues in every game like in this link:

Tried:

1) Reinstalling drivers with DDU

2) Reinstalling windows

3) Disabling GPU and CPU overclocking

4) Playing with LOD values in nvidiainspector (nothing changes no matter what)

I have no idea what to do next

LOD bias was removed way back when and is not possible to change/adjust with DX11+. It's just something we all have to get used to. In 90% of the games I play, I barely notice it. It's just the way the games have been engineered to run.

I have a question, have you noticed the presence of the problem on your TV or on your different consoles (ps3...)?

Ok.
What do you use on both computer: Windows? 10 8 7 XP?
Can you give us the two configuration?

And can you make some screens/videos with the same game, same GPU, but different computer?

Thnks for the help :)

Are any of you who have these issues running the new AMD Ryzen CPU's? Some interesting and somewhat related results observed during this comparison of the 4790K to R7 1700X.
