Xioami releases their new Mi NoteBook Air with a new surprising GPU

AlTech

Xioami, the highly popular Chinese phone manufacturer, have released their first laptop! It's called the "Mi Notebook Air" and unsurprisingly is aimed to compete against the macbookair.

It's got a stunning design and the specs sort of make sense (although I'm disappointed in more ways than one).

Speaking of design, I guess I don't need to remind people how much this looks like a Surface Book or a MacBook Pro.

Because this is really hilarious.

Speaking of disappointing specs we have the following:

8GB DDR4 RAM - Seriously? No 16GB option?

Intel core i5 Skylake CPU

256GB SSD - If only this was NVMe or PCI-E based. And why is there no 512GB model?

Weight - It weighs 1.28 KGs or  2.82 pounds

13.3" Full HD 1920x1080 - More disappointment. The first is using 16:9 instead of 3:2  and the second is the fact that it's not high resolution. It's just 1080p. And finally i'm disappointed cos it has no touch screen.

9.5 hour battery.

Price - $750 USD

AND A dedicated Nvidia Geforce 940MX GPU- Featuring 384 Maxwell Cuda Cores @ 1122-1242Mhz with 4GB DDR3 VRAM.

At an event in Beijing, Xiaomi unveiled its first Windows 10 notebook, the Mi Notebook Air. The Chinese vendor is going after the 13.3-inch MacBook Air, claiming that the Mi Notebook Air is 13% thinner at 14.8mm and 11% smaller while managing to offer a similar sized screen.

The Mi Notebook Air features a brushed aluminium body, a laminated 13.3-inch Full HD display with edge-to-edge glass, sixth-generation Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, and an Nvidia 940MX video card. The notebook weighs 1.28 kilos (2.82 lb), and has dimensions of 309.6 x 210.9 14.8 mm. Xiaomi is claiming a battery life of 9.5 hours on a full charge, and the ability to gain a 50% charge in just 30 minutes.

You also get backlit keys with 1.3mm travel, and in terms of connectivity, the Mi Notebook Air offers two USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI, one 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB-C port. Oh, and there's no Xiaomi branding at the front, but you can customize the front of the notebook with stickers. While Xiaomi is selling the notebook under its own moniker, it is made by one of its ecosystem partners called Tian Mi.

Note: there will a cheaper $525 model with a 12.5" display and a Core M available as well.

Opinion time:

This laptop would be perfect if they addressed everything disappointing about it. From the lack of a 16GB RAM option all the way to a non touchscreen 16:9 display.

The GPU is really nice choice but i'm not interested. I've had too many bad experiences with dGPUs on a laptop to give  a f*ck and so that's not super helpful for me.

Thanks for reading guys.  Leave a comment below. Are you gonna buy this laptop? Were my complaints valid?

See for me its the opposite to you

1080p is perfect for the size since Windows does not scale as well as OSX and 1080p at 13" is still a decently high PPI display

16gb ram would be nice, but 8gb is fine for 95% of users and tasks

prefer 16:9 for regular content, gaming etc

GPU great for light gaming, video encoding etc, its a 940m so it shouldnt be creating too much heat etc

I am genuinly impressed

This is not a gaming graphics card.

It should be used just for productivity and light CAD work.

Anything you would use with surface book can probably be done on this except this has an i5 with no i7 model.

OOPS. This may only be released in China :(.

The laptops will be available in China from August 2nd, but Xiaomi is yet to reveal when — and if — they'll arrive elsewhere in the world.

It looks pretty damn well built... Will wait for more premium version/V2.0 though, a companies first laptop doesn't always go so well. But I think its was finally time for Xiaomi to get into to the laptop market considering they are in so many other other tech markets.
