No it's not, because point is console be it anywhere between 500-1000 is still good for it for people that play on them, yet people discuss will it be 100 more or less, like it's some big deal. Console lasting like for years and years while phones well it seema people change them yearly or after 2-3y because. Value from a phone is quite lower.

Completely disagree. Phones have significantly more value because they are used for many different operations (camera, phone, social media access, texting access, media player) whereas the console does two things, gaming and media. Most expensive phones are bought on contract, and paid monthly, whereas consoles are outright purchases. Phones are more of a necessity, consoles are a luxury item.

They do have more value, but all that can be easily done on a €300 phone with no issues too. Phones that are way more, the value is for every specific people, in general for minority, that actually take full advantage of those. Yeah those very expensive phones are bought on contract, but oh wow are those monthly bills expensive, definitely makes me question reality when I see the prices from my ISPs pricings. Literally monthly bills from those costing like electricity bills.

Phones are necessity vs console yes. But paying upfront for console price is nothing vs those super expensive monthly phone bills. Just in generalized look, not even comparing specific enthusiasts.

My initial point was just that everywhere before price reveal sites and comments spamming and discussing how much they'll cost like it's some big deal if they cost 100-ish more than they want or something. Some complaining console costing like 600 and not 500 yet so many people today have 1k phones that they change in a year...

You can game on that same 300 euro phone. It's a moot point.

You rarely ever pay the full $1,000 for the phone. It's subsidized through the carrier. Which even includes the sales associates commission.

and other, with a crappy setup. IDK if rainway is on xbox, but technically, you could do desktop stuff on a xbox.

It's not a moot point, because there's very much just 'the console', which ever of those two, for that one set price and that's it for a longer time before new ones. Phones are across all prices. Console for years on still can hold value, phones it seems people change them like socks.

Subsidized through carrier? Yeah, priced per month with your plan, which are insanely overpriced too, obviously you won't just buy a expensive phone without one, waste. Sales associates commission? Either way, a flagship phone with a solid data plan, the 2y total of that and I can get a car.

Pricing confirmed, I seriously hope no one believed it was actually going to be $900.

I was actually half hoping because it would mean they’d have to make keyboards and mice truely usable and sell it as an office machine as well.  Believe it though? Not I.  If they do that at $500 though desktop PCs may be done for many.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I'd read somewhere that the Series S, which is the weaker "next gen" Xbox console, is going to be $299.99 - and the Series X will be around the $499.99 mark.

Anything close to 900 dollars is absurb and absolutely will not happen.

Even 500 is pushing it, considering the current situation the world is experiencing.

I mean, has a console ever launched for more than 500 U.S in gaming history?

I know the ps3 was particularly expensive when it first came out, though it did include a blu ray player which weren't cheap at the time...and even then I don't think it was over 500.

That is getting into territory that no parent is going to spend on a Christmas (or birthday) present for a child - and that market is important to both console manufacturers.

I think the general consensus is it'll go something like this;

Xbox

Series S - $299.99

Series X - $499.99

Playstation

PS5 (digital only) - $399.99

PS5 (disc drive inc) - $499.99

Very good counterpoints, they make sense, but it will likely end up happening. Even if it's inflation that ends up causing it. Give it a couple more generations. We already had Sony try 600 bucks 15 years ago. Adjusting for inflation, that's 800 bucks.

FYI ps2 was already (if we count inflation) around $700 (869DM) here in germany at launch... Which was very ridiculous considering but it sold like hotcakes anyway...
