Country: Indonesia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: workstation: 4K video editing in Adobe Premiere & After Effect, 3D animation in Autodesk Maya & Blender (for real time rendering EEVEE)

Other details i prefer clean minimalist professional aesthetic & mid-tower sized PC

Hello good people of Linustechtips,

I'm in dire need and (a lot of) second opinions and tips from you regarding the PC that i'm planning to build, i have no prior experience on this hi-end product. (been using laptop for the past 7 years)

i've been extensively doing a lot of research regarding this and i've come to preliminary decision:

Processor      : Ryzen 9 3950X                                                                                           $ 850

VGA               : Asus RTX 2080 Super Dual EVO OC                                                       $ 879

Motherboard  : Asus TUF gaming X570-Plus                                                                   $ 254

Memory          : Corsair DDR4 Vengeance RGB Pro 64GB 2X32GB PC28800               $ 412

Storage 1       : ADATA SX8200 PRo 2TB M.2                                                                   $ 297

Storage 2       : ADATA SX8200 PRo 2TB M.2                                                                   $ 297

Storage 3      : (haven't decide yet, something sturdy and cheap for backup, archive and storage)

Casing           : Fractal Design Meshify C                                                                          $ 113

PSU               : Corsair RM 750W Gold                                                                              $ 132

CPU Cooler   : be quiet! Dark Rock 4                                                                                $   70

Keyboard       : Keychron K1 version 4 TKL Brown Switch RGB                               $   87

Mouse            : ???                                                                                                              $   70

Monitor          : ???                                                                                                               $ 300

                                                                                                     TOTAL                           $ 3761

note:

  • I prefer clean, minimalist professional aesthetic, don't really care much about RGB disco light, so, less gaudy / over-the-top design is better, but if that's what it takes for better performance, i'm willing to sacrifice the look.
  • VGA & Motherboard... i don't know if that's the right one, those two is confusing as hell to decide, too many brands with too many variant and sub-variant, i really need help on this one, for the motherboard, i need the one with Wi-Fi, and i don't do anything related to OC, i'm too ignorant for that, just your average guy working with computer, not a PC hardcore stress-test enthusiast.
  • I want to go as wireless as possible due to the chaotic nature of the environment (cable nightmare)
  • I'd like to have a wireless mechanical keyboard, couldn't decide what's good (and not too crazy expensive) so far Keychron K1 V4 TKL comes to mind
  • I haven't decide on the mouse yet,  as long as its best-bang-for-bucks wireless mouse, sturdy general purpose, maybe Logitech?
  • I haven't decide on the monitor yet, an affordable 4K monitor with good color for video editing, an IPS panel? and probably not too big since i don't have big workspace, probably 24"-27" ( i need 4K monitor for pixel-proof my work)
  • i decide to go with be quiet! Dark Rock 4 CPU cooler because i need something less heavy and bulky (the pro version/noctua NH-D15) and anxious-free to carry my PC  around without worrying that it may break the motherboard, we tend to move our equipment around every now and then, or maybe anyone has better suggestion with this? im still not 100% sure if its safe to go with bulky CPU cooler, is an AIO water cooler can be a good alternative?

any tips and feedback would be greatly appreciated. :D

Can and will you wait for Ampere and ryzen 4000?

Edit: Also 4k 24-27 is dumb as at a normal viewing distance you won't notice the difference between 4k 27 and 1440p 27 and the latter is much cheaper @electric.bondage

TBH in this current COVID situation, i don't know anymore, every misstep is catastrophe, but i think if i don't submit the quotation at least within August, the money will be gone.

the main reason why I need 4K screen is i need to pixel-proof the 4K video output for video production purpose, im working on 4K video compositing & motiongraphic, and without 4K monitor, i cant tell what the hell im doing, sometimes things look good on 1080p-1440p, but then my editor told me that my work is sloppy and look like shit when reviewing on 4K

Don't get that case *or any NZXT case* if you're going to use those components, it'll be a furnace

You want something trustworthy for backup yet you chose Samsung for your main storage uhhh... nps if you're a fanboy I won't argue with that, I just find it odd.

You could go for a 750W PSU and it'll still work fine.

That cooler will do but def go for the D15 if you want to flex your build, def don't go for an NZXT AIO, they're junk, perform a quick search for more info.

in my country (Indonesia) there's only so much mainstream choice, i don't have the flexibility to choose niche brands, i cant even find a good old fashion corsair LPX 64GB RAM without the RGB version in it, i cant afford to buy stuff overseas due to strict&risky custom regulation.

do you have any preference for storage aside from samsung? i heard many good thing about SABRNET Rocket NVMe 4.0 M.2, but i simply couldn't find it here, and im not knowledgable enough about other brand (intel / WD NVMe)

same question for NZXT case, is there any suggestion? i need the mid-tower due to limited space on my workspace.

if you are buying this for professional work, I would consider threadripper cpu's instead. Not sure about availability in Indonesia but those are much faster than the 3950x for intensive work like that.

i dont know if i can chip in further for the processor, originally the decision was 3900X,

could you specify which threadripper that you recommend?

i haven't done my research yet up to threadripper section

my main priority ATM is the heavy usage of real time rendering with EEVEE on Blender, that rely heavily on graphic card (and RTX enabled for all that sweet stuff)

Don't worry as much about the CPU, but the GPU is definitely worth waiting for.
Just grab a used one in the mean time and upgrade later.

$93 for a h510? you can get the meshify C for like 300k IDR more and it will have much better airflow.

that should be the price of the meshify C, you can save your money on the 970 evo and get that case, its not a good idea to put a 3950x in a h510.

i was actually referring to replace the 970 evo, but that works as well. the sx8200 pro does hold up to the 970 evo.

n.b. i need 2 fast storage drive setup to work, (the first one is software, the video file / video footage that i work on, the second drive is for the video caches & some temporary doodads/library)
