agreed buy used and look around for something on par with a 1070. you could add a saved search to ebay including all your perspective cards and your budget. Always be checking your local listings like craigslist and don't be afraid to make offers of lower than asking price if the seller is asking too much.

If you go used, check out EVGA B stock. They’re refurbished cards that were returned and fixed by EVGA and sold for decent prices (still comes with one year warranty, products may have cosmetic damage such as scratches but should otherwise work well). The real catch though is that every wednesday they have a mid week madness sale with some insane deals. Looked last wednesday and saw some 980 Ti’s for like 90 bucks a pop. Gotta be quick though, as you can imagine these sells within a minute or two of the sale starting. They usually also have some 1660’s/supers under $200

Used GPUs are fine, I’ve had a couple and sold a couple.

Not really? Used GPUs don’t suddenly just die, don’t go for anything too old and check they haven’t been abused.

depends....a new card has full warranty, but used ones too much uncertainty..if not budget issue, never recommend.

Yeah but it’s silicon, if it’s worked for 2 years and hasn’t been abused it’ll work just fine for a few years more.

It’s not lucky silicon doesn’t just die within a couple of years unless it’s been abused, even mining cards that run 24/7 they’re undervolted so the card uses less energy and doesn’t die. If you get it off eBay and places like that there’s buyer protection too.
