Will Freenas/Unraid run in proxmox?

FreeNAS runs fine in a PROXMOX VM but if you want it for ZFS PROXMOX supports that natively.

I can't comment on UNRAID though.

Hello,

I have been wondering the question and could not find a simple answer... Will Freenas or Unraid run in proxmox. I am planning on getting a server in the coming months and I want to be able to run a bunch of VMs to host local game servers, a DNS server, and more and more things (a personal vault being on the of them). I understand that this question might not be a simple yes or no but at least I am getting somewhere

Simple answer: Yes.

I've virtualised UnRAID when I was testing it, and I run FreeNAS in a KVM VM.

I agree with the statements above. You can set up Debian/Ubuntu server running Proxmox and ZFS. This means you can use ZFS and Proxmox at the same time, but you can use FreeNAS. It is build using FreeBSD. Taking into account the recent announcements, TrueNAS Core (which is FreeNAS) is going to be developed on Debian. https://www.truenas.com/
