I just built a budget system.  Ryzen 3 3400g.  Msi tomahawk max motherboard.   Do u recommend the 1050ti or look into a rx 480 or 580?

Really depends on what you can get used, as you are more dependent on what people are offering.

What PSU do you have?

Gigabyte GTX 1050 ti 4gb used for $90!   Is that a good deal??

Looking at US eBay, it seems like the GTX 1050 Ti goes for between 70 and 110 US dollars. Most are at 90-100 USD.

Doesn't look like a special deal.

Seems like RX 480/580 cards (excluding the mining cards) for around 90-100 USD too, which might be an option too if you have a decent PSU. The RX 480/580 has  better performance too.

Sort of? Good price if you cant afford to use a PCIe power connector (I assume it doesnt, that's the point of the 1050/1050ti) but the card itself needs to drop graphics settings to the floor in order to play major titles.

Do you have a specific model number, like BQ, BW, G2, etc. etc. as EVGA has a lot of different PSU's which range from really good to really bad.

If you already have a 3400G then I'd probably go for something better than a 1050Ti. It is faster than the integrated Vega 11 graphics sure, but not by a groundbreaking amount. Maybe save up a little more if you can and go for a used 1060 or RX 480/570?

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

For the same price as a GTX 1050 Ti, an RX 470/570/480/580 is a much better options (the latter two being the best), but I couldn't really recommend these videocards (including the 1050 Ti) on that power supply.

Have you bought that PSU already? As I would recommend a new Corsair CX450/CX550 or Be Quiet Pure Power 11 450/550W over that PSU.

Absolutely not. The RX 570 can be found for the same price and absolutely crushes the 1050 Ti. The 1050 Ti sucks.

What about this then?   It's on sale?

^^^ Hell yeah. I've had multiple 1050 Tis and a 570 (mine was the Strix). The 570 absolutely wipes the floor with the 1050 Ti, it'll handle 1080p high/ultra easily, whereas the 1050 Ti can struggle for med/high in a lot of titles now. It's really only an option if you need a PCIe power only GPU (so a 75W or lower card that only needs slot power), but the 1650 is a better GPU to fill that gap now.

Honestly, I'd steer clear of the 1050ti...it's a very underwhelming card. You should be able to find a RX 570/480 for around the same price, which will blow the 1050ti away.
