5600xt vs rx5700

Personally, below 60fps average is unacceptable for something this expensive already, especially with a 144Hz monitor OP has planned. Also don't see why anyone would use anything but ultra when RTX is enabled, this tech is all about the little details and turning down any of the settings blurs them away, making their visual effect even smaller while still keeping a lot of the impact to frame rate.

Idk what exactly you expect from the very first generation of something completely new. Buy the cheapest card there is and get blown away like wtf. God dang I'm an amd fanboy myself and the whole rtx bashing is just pure bs imo.

And I'm sorry but you really don't need 60fps for games like metro or sottr.

Whether Nvidia did something good is a different to whether you should buy their product for it. Immature products has always been a reason for not buying something, e.g. Radeon cards for their drivers.

Oh I definitely do, if I need to hold a gun or a bow in a game I will need at least 60fps to shoot properly. I have played both games.

Even the THICC II cooler at its worst is still better than the ASUS TUF at its best.

Also, XFX is sending out replacement coolers to those affected, even if it doesn't actually need it.

I would get the 5700 of your choice. With a flash, you can get near-5700xt performance.

It's a personal preference; as for me, I'm always the guy to turn down settings before accepting low fps.

Given that, RTX on a 2060 generally isn't viable for my preference.

But other guys are fine playing 30fpd at 4k. So to each their own.

Amazon dropped the price on that xfx rx5700 to $299 today and I ordered it. I figured for $10 more then the pulse 5600xt it’s worth the gamble

No brainer there, especially since you get a three year warranty from XFX. I did find another video where Gamers Nexus talked about how they were able to drop memory temps a few degrees Celsius by removing the unnecessary parts of the plastic crap in the shroud and completely removing the backplate. The backplate is spaced too far off the card to act as any kind of extra heatsink and instead traps hot air over the GDDR6. Personally I would never do those mods though because repasting a gpu is different from a cpu. Nowadays a cpu usually has a heatspreader you're attaching the heatsink to, but with gpus you're putting the paste and installing the heatsink to a bare die. A bare die that if you chip it's game over, the gpu is dead, completely unable to be fixed, and you have zero shot at any kind of warranty service. So personally if I had that card I would just up the fan speed, especially once we hit summer when you might not be able to have a sub 30C interior case fan temperature. Thankfully it's not a broken design like the Asus TUF seems to be, just something you'll either have to run louder than other 5700. Which is probably worth it getting the card for $300.

It ended up being $285 with the cash back then I forgot I had a $40 gift card from Christmas on the account so for $245 I’ll risk it for the biscuit and see how it goes

Just looked it up and the $310 XFX RX 5700 on Amazon and B & H is the one with the Thicc II cooler.

https://www.xfxforce.com/gpus/radeon-tm-rx-5700-dd-ultra-8gb-gddr6

I have the xfx 5700 dd and its been a good card but gd it gets hot. 90-100C while playing gow5 on 2k upsampling, ultra settings

I wonder if radeon software is reading temp correctly though because no crashes even at 100+C. Also, it reads my fan spinning at 65,000, yes 65 thousand rpm...lol. I've seen junction temps as high as 110C. By default, max fan speed is set to 50% so I've upped it to 80% which keeps temps in the 80s-90s. According to AMD, 100C is 'normal' ?

Please tell me you're overvolting and overclocking the shit out of that card. That's worse than reference R9 290x temps, which would be hard to believe on a 180W card with a non blower cooler.

Sadly no, its all stock settings and wattage goes as high as 200w. I have a feeling AMD drivers are reading temps incorrectly too sice it shows fan speeds at 65,000 rpm...lol. I may have to try a third party gpu monitor...any suggestions?

Well your RPM is definitely wrong. 65535 = -1 in 16 bit (signed) integer arithmetic and -1 is often used to indicate an error.

I've got the inferior designed RAWII and it doesn't even get that hot. Use Hwinfo64 to monitor the three big temps and reinstall that adrenaline or something....I spit my coffee out at 65k rpm

You go any faster you'll be going back into the future with that shit

So I downloaded hwinfo64 and fan speed is grayed out. Temps seem accurate. I noticed only 1 fan is spinning...what is the deal?

Omg...so Im an idiot. I removed my gpu a week ago and didnt realize wires were obstructing the second fan. Probably because it was stopped dead. Miraculously, the fan motor still works. Now I get a normal fan speed and temps in the 70s

I would use hwinfo64 to monitor the hotspot and memory temperature

These values are just as important and aren't reported by adrenaline. Under 80-85 during load are good values.

The factory fan curve is pretty conservative so that's the easiest thing to adjust to improve temperatures.

Good idea...if it can survive 100+ degrees without crashing with 1 fan, I feel good about the cooling on this card!

how did you get adrenaline to report junction temp?

mine only shows GPU temp which is kind of useless

I remember you posting that crazy fan speed before. Glad you got that stuff figured out and it looks like the cooling on this card is decent after you got the other fan working.

I haven't checked this thread in hours and that was a funny story to come back to
