I made a itx pc for emulation and it's really slow

i wanted to make a small pc for emulation but as soon as i installed windows and got everything running the pc was incredibly slow.

 

Anything i try to open takes like 50 seconds almost a minute lol even google chrome and file manager, also my mouse skips really bad sometimes not even moving at all

 

My specs:

GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 970 windforce

case: coolermaster elite 130

ram: Corsair vengeance Lpx 8gb (1x8)

cpu: AMD Ryzen 3 2200g quad core 3.5Ghz

motherboard: GIGABYTE B450 I AORUS PRO WiFi ITX

psu: EVGA-600W ATX 12v/EPS 12v 80 plus

Are you running it off an old hard drive or something?

1) As said above what HDD or SSD are you using?

2) Have you tried booting in safe mode? Does it make a difference? (if it does make a difference, it could well be a driver issue)

3) Have you checked the CPU speed in BIOS? Make sure it is running at the correct speed.

4) Are you overclocking? If so was it overclocked while installing the OS?

5) Have you updated the BIOS and drivers to the latest versions, not just the ones included on the CD in the box?

 

Initial suspect would be the hard drive and or sata drivers.

One problem I'm seeing there is that you only have one stick of RAM meaning that it is only running in single channel mode which is a big no no when it comes to Ryzen as it needs its RAM to be as fast as possible and single channel is going to more then likely slow things down drastically.

 

If you was only going for 8GB, you should have stuck a 2x4GB kit in but now you'll either have to do that and have the spare 8GB stick or get another 8GB stick so that you have the system running in dual channel mode.

Ryzen needs dual channel high speed Ram otherwise it runs like crap, I'd recommend getting either a 2x4GB kit or a 2x8GB kit of 3000mhz minimum. Also if you're running it on a standard HDD especially an old or refurbished standard HDD it could cause some issues, I'd recommend a solid state drive, you can get a 240GB SSD for around $29 or a 480GB for around $49 on Amazon.

I'd suspect the HDD/SSD. I would also personally install some Linux distro if you're planning to use it for emulation.

yes sorry I'm using a seagate hard drive from my ps4 it's 500 gigs i also had switched from another hard drive because i thought that's the reason it was running slow since it was an older hdd from my old non working windows vista laptop

ok what if a i get another 8gb ram? my ram is 2400mhz would that still not be enough?

Running single channel would make the computer run slow but what you are describing is more than just slow. I honestly think the issue is elsewhere.

yeah that's what I'm thinking but i really hope it's not. hopefully getting another stick of ram will fix the issue

Not really no, Ryzen needs highspeed memory, I personally don't go below 3000mhz when I build Ryzen systems. Depending on where you live you can get a 16GB kit of Corsair LPX 3000mhz for around $80. Also slow single channel ram in a Ryzen system can be a serious problem, it causes a few issues including, stuttering, apps crashing or taking a long time to load, etc. Other than ram I think your issue would be your HDD. A dying HDD can also explain your issues as well, I'd recommend doing a solid state drive like I said in my previous post, they're super cheap now and will make a significant difference in terms of startup and load times. But I mean unless you borked putting the computer together it's either the HDD or the Ram that is the issue.

well i actually solved the problem on my own lol but not before trying your guy's advice though. OK so first i did what everyone told me about the ram 3000mhz and the ssd, i used my ram from my main pc which is corsair vengeance led 16gb 3200mhz 2x8 and my ssd:1tb and put them on my new itx machine but it was still the same, it was laggy af and slow. Later that day i put the original parts to my itx pc and booted it up then for some reason i went into the nvidia control panel and remembered that my main pc and my gaming laptop all have (maximum power performance) enabled so i enabled and BOOM the pc is super fast, no more freaking lagg!!! lmao. To think i was 10 minutes away from getting another set of 16gb 3200mhz ram! Thank you guy's for your help i really appreciate it
