Number of non-windowed atx cases dwindling? Manufacturers forcing RGB?

corrado33

I've been buying used cases for a while now because they're cheap, but I recently started looking at new cases for a new build. I'm extremely disappointed by the variety of cases that support atx and DON'T have side window panels. Newegg has 4 pages of non-windowed, then 16 pages of windowed cases.

Most of the non-windowed cases are just all black "boxes" with absolutely no features whatsoever, or super high end (Be quiet cases). I have not found decently priced ATX non-windowed cases for a decent price (~80-100)

Are the manufacturers trying to force RGB by only offering windowed cases with the logic of "Well if we FORCE them to look at their motherboard, we force them to make it 'interesting' and therefore are more likely to buy RGB and spend more money.

Its simply a standard these days. People buying high end cases for their PCs expect to have a window side panel. And its not because of "RBG" fever, windowed cases have been around long before RBG craze took over the world.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus ROG Strix B650E / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Powercolor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil/ EVGA 750W GQ / NZXT H5 Flow

I mean it's awful. I'm a huge proponent of "light pollution" and I REALLY.... REALLY don't want a bunch of LEDs from my motherboard (some of which I cannot turn off) polluting the space. I could probably paint the panel but still.... that's just annoying.

Corsair Carbide 400Q

It's the quiet version of Carbide 400C, the 400Q don't have side panel window, completely blind side panel.

No

Manufacturers are just selling what people want. It's the same logic as to why Ford is stopping the sales of almost all their midsize cars and are only selling trucks, SUV's and the Mustang; its just what people are buying and making other products that don't sell is a waste of $$$.

Did you miss the part where I said that most non-windowed cases are literally just black boxes with no interesting features? Notice anything about the ones you posted?

yeah but what does interesting features mean to you?

but I agree that cases like the 400Q is HIDEOUS, I'll keep my 730 for now until this tempered glass shit is over.

I wouldn't say it's forced, but rather what people largely want.

You and me, the kind of people who want unassuming boxes for cases, we're a dying breed. Everyone wants flashy so they can brag about their e-peen to their Discord server.

I would settle for something that ISN'T a stark black case and maybe has some interesting design elements? Something that's not literally a black box with 6 sides.

It's not that boring plain black box. Have some outer design features and flavors..

That has got to be one of the ugliest cases I've ever seen. Plus it's already outdated. No USB3, firewire? It's like what someone from the 90s would look "cool" in 20 years.

Hi guys,

OP are you still looking for this type of case? Or someone who still in their quest for this type of case..

I know this is old topic, but I just want to share what I stumbled upon when I'm surfing the internet for PC builds.

Corsair Carbide 330R, There is black and titanium color options..

Have you seen this one?

You might think there is no front vents, but from this angle, yes you can't see it, but the front vents are actually there on the side front panel facing the rear.

I think this one is a really good non-windowed case without being boring plain box which doesn't have some flavor in the exterior design.. This one has a great look exterior design, looks elegant and classy, and looks premium..
