I've started a new 'project', got myself a new engine (1300cc, dual port) for my Beetle. It needs a thorough cleaning and some new seals, but if it's done I'll be going from 34hp to 44!

Let's move away from the identity politics bullshit for a moment and look at some actually politically-charged games.

Fallout: Delivers a warning message about nuclear war, tensions between nations, capitalism and nuclear power in general Bioshock: Literally criticism of libertarianism Bioshock Infinite: Literally criticism of American exceptionalism Metal Gear: Nation-states abuse soldiers, soldiers are being dehumanized and reduced to mere fighting machines, war leads to suffering not just for soldiers but civilians caught in the crossfire, America is a warmongering nation, the Cold War was a tough time not just for Americans but Soviets as well, so on and so forth... Final Fantasy VII: You start out in an eco-terrorist organization, a corporate president is the big bad for the first ~8 hours of the game, the game contains heavy messages about environmentalism and anti-capitalism throughout the entire adventure, corporations hold more power over the people than politicians... Final Fantasy XII: Anti-imperialism is a central theme of the game Grand Theft Auto: Heavily satirizes American life and politics, V in particular features three protagonists who turn to a life of crime because they were fucked over by the American government for a variety of reasons Stardew Valley: Straight-up criticism of capitalism Mother 3: Also contains anti-capitalist messaging Doom: Corporations would literally exploit Hell if it meant making more of a profit. Eternal expands this to "corporations don't understand the causes they support". LA Noire: America's police force is corrupt as hell and we'll demonstrate this to you by pairing you with the worst the Los Angeles Police Department has to offer Kingdom Come: Deliverance: A power struggle in the historic Kingdom of Bohemia is a central plot point of the game
But please, do tell me about how the only political things in games ever are about peoples' identities.

Side note: Mike Pondsmith actually isn't the creator of cyberpunk. That would be William Gibson.

"Hey, this game offends whiny people who are so neurotic and out of touch with reality that their own image in a mirror "triggers" them".

That's because people like that, are the actual racist/sexist/bigots. The only see those things and focus upon them entirely.

Also because when you do that kind of forced "artistry" it comes off as contrived and disingenuous. Kind of like the 2016 "ghostbusters" film.

It's not a "supposed" majority. They are the fucking works that DEFINED and CREATED the genre. You can't say that the very media that creates a genre do not matter to what that genre is.

Umm, no. Cyberpunk deals exclusively with dystopian futures dominated by technology. It is defined by both words that make up the term. There is nothing "punk" about steampunk or dieselpunk. The "punk" (as in the musical genre") aspect is core to what cyberpunk is. The genre is, by its very definition, political. Go read the Cyberpunk 2020 core book and try to say that it isn't political.

    You said:
if you meant what you're now claiming you meant you did a terrible job of communicating it. I extrapolated the only conclusions possible from your original statement since actually wanting that to the letter would mean excluding every game ever made with very few exceptions, if any.

If I call you out often it's because you tend to throw out debunked reactionary talking points rather frequently. Just look at how far you retreated from the original, untenable and extremely general statement as soon as someone pointed out how absurd it was. You went from "Imagine if we could have a game without political stances" to basically "let's not criticise this specific game based on a trailer".
That's all well and good but it's completely irrelevant to what I said. Also, if you don't care, why make a fuss about any of this? Let those who care care and enjoy the game when it comes out. Even if CDPR made changes based on this I don't see how gameplay would be affected and you don't seem to think the story would change depending on how the characters identify themselves.
    Basically a "no u" argument.
Seriously? Did you miss the BFV charade? People who talk like this are almost always the first to cry like babies whenever game developers do anything superficially more progressive than what they're used to. And what is this thread if not a bunch of "Gamers" ranting about one article they disagree with?

So you DO think the game isn't inherently political. As I said, you're wrong - art IS inherently political in one way or another. I don't know what art you think you "admire" but if you take everything that could be seen (intentionally or not) as political out of the game you're left with abstract spheres increasing a score pointer via nondescript interactions with other spheres. In fact even that would be a political statement about people who want politics "out of their games".
I take it you're not familiar with "death of the author". Obviously the artist is entitled to their opinion and can explain what they meant but the art itself can have meaning that goes beyond what the author intended.

Oh, and maybe you missed the part where I said I don't necessarily agree with RPS on this - I just feel compelled to point out that 90% of what you wrote here is wrong or fallacious. You'll notice that I didn't reply to anyone to tell them the journalist is right, I only replied to people who took that position and from it jumped to absurd conclusions.
They were, the difference is that around 5 years ago a bunch of "commentators" sprung up like mushrooms and started making a living of being outraged about other people being outraged (or more often just criticizing any sort of blatant racism or sexism in games and later in different media). The truth is the stereotypical "triggered feminist" is little more than a stereotype and the few people who fall close to that characterization have been extremely amplified by people who profit from making fun of them.
The term for that is "alternate history". But you do realize both Wolfenstein the new order and Bioshock are extremely political games, right?

This somewhat reminds me of how a few years ago a group of prostitutes in Australia successfully petitioned Target [Australia] to remove GTA V from sale because they claimed the game was setting a bad example for children and was not in line with Target's family friendly values.

Then you'd have no GTA, Witcher series, Metal Gear Solid series, Scarface.....

The other counter argument is that games are works of art, a reflection of the artist's point of view. Some points of view are meh, others interesting, and some downright ugly.

Last week, gaming news site Rock Paper Shotgun ran an article written by a gaming journalist who is transgender and who emphasizes pronouns on their Twitter profile, who saw the depiction of minorities in Cyberpunk 2077, including "transhumans", black people, and Latinos as uninspired and as reinforcing stereotypes and racism. The author also threw in some swipes at Cyberpunk's gunplay in the same breath, just to make sure readers didn't miss the fact that the article has an objective of taking down the game by any means possible.

I personally suspect the author's criticism is disingenuous and basically made to swipe at CDPR and Cyberpunk in hopes of causing damage to the company and the game's sales because Cyberpunk 2077 wasn't the personal soap box platform the RPS author wanted it to be for transgenders and other groups of people, with game characters' attitude toward modifying themselves in Cyberpunk being the trigger for it all.

Well, the Rock Paper Shotgun article caused a sizable stir from commentators about whether Cyberpunk 2077 was plagued by racist ignorance and cultural insensitivity. One comment made in a reddit thread featuring a video interview with Cyberpunk's creator, Mike Pondsmith, summarized the comments on the RPS article like this:

That comment sparked a response from Mike Pondsmith, himself, who categorically and succinctly refuted each of those assertions being made by commentators and also in the RPS article.

The response made by Mike (who, in case you didn't know, is himself a black person) reads:

So, Mike Pondsmith says the critics are wrong and are interpreting things in a way that fuels their agendas rather than how they actually are supposed to be understood.

Another article I read said it's unacceptable to call a gang of (allegedly) mostly-black people The Animals when there's a history of negative association. There was also some criticism over an in-game poster showing a chick with a dick:

Deeply transphobic ad in ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ represents everything wrong with cyberpunk
Cyberpunk 2077 art criticized as transphobic is meant to reflect corporate exploitation, says the artist

I kind of see the RPS article as the author thinking that the world and everyone in it is to be judged based on whether they're using every opportunity as a soap box to further that author's own agenda - including when the author's agenda is unrelated to the projects people are working on. Like, as though the RPS author thinks their personal goal overrides everyone else's and the purposes of other people's work.

I also noticed that the Rock Paper Shotgun article's author takes aim at Cyberpunk 2077's presentation of "transhumans" and black people as allegedly being "unimaginative stereotypes", but then also takes aim at the game's presentation for the opposite, alleging the "clumsy and inauthentic presentation of a Latino character". So, some characters are supposed to be less stereotypical, while others are supposed to be more stereotypical? Or, are the author's attacks on the game disingenuous?
