Fgtfv567 reacted to Master Disaster in Bitcoin went beyond $5,000 threshold over the weekend
According to Coindesk the price of a single bitcoin (BTC) peaked at over $5,000 for the first time on Saturday though it has since fallen off again
This rise helped to push the global value of cryptocurrency to over $176bn
This is mere weeks after a fairly dramatic fall in prices (apparently due to a "civil war over its future") lead to speculation of a cryptocurrency crash

Welp, I guess this means GPU prices won't be returning to normal anytime in the near future. Damn miners.

Yeah I don't think there's any doubt or question at this point that they did it for other reasons, not because they simply couldn't. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact they own a company that makes bluetooth headphones? Nah...

Tell the difference between mining, folding at home, and other applications. Then tell my why I should be punished for using a card I bought and should have software that can arbitrarily decide that I've done something a company doesn't like. Maybe the next step is they burn your System ID into the card and if you try to sell it then it won't work.

Fgtfv567 reacted to knightslugger in Verizon changes it's unlimited plan, ALL video is now throttled
WTF!?
I live out in the country where our telecommunications lines haven't been updated since WWII (not an exaggeration). Satellite internet isn't viable for our uses, WiMAX tops out a 3Mbps (in a household LITTERED with internet aware devices), DSL service is only SLIGHTLY faster than dial-up, and cable?! ...forget about it... they wont run $100,000 worth of cable, modernization upgrades to the support beams, and asorted telecom equipment for 10 properties.
Verizon wireless is the ONLY high speed, medium latency option we have that is a reasonable price. THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT!

A pretty undisputed fact about self-driving cars is that they'll cause fewer accidents than human drivers but Google's Waymo has been experimenting how they can minimize the inevitable crash.
Previously, the tried adding a flypaper-like coating of glue to the hood of a car so that if a pedestrian got stuck, he/she would stick to the hood instead of getting thrown off and further injured.

So what do you think of that concept? Think it'll work or just a crazy idea that will never make it to production.

Fgtfv567 reacted to Mira Yurizaki in Paris is considering eSports for the 2024 Olympics
https://compete.kotaku.com/paris-olympic-committee-will-consider-esports-for-the-2-1797678847
Basically:
My first thought is this really blows up the boundaries to what is a sport and what isn't. However I'm still hesitant to include it in the Olympics. Plus other people brought up good points such as:
Olympic games do not necessarily require a commercial product to do. Using an eSports game does require a commercial product and so it would be a huge advertisement for said product. It's a barrier for some countries who can't afford a computer to play said games and may not have a robust enough internet infrastructure. Though while it's easy to scoff at this argument in going "well the equipment they use at the games probably cost more than my machine", a lot of people can build up their athletic skills without the expensive, top-of-the-line equipment. EDIT: Also companies give athletes the equipment as part of being a sponsor. It could open up the argument for other competitive games that are not generally considered "sports" to be included, like I dunno, chess. Or even some that are considered sports but are never part of the Olympics, like car racing. There's already too many effing games. -

Is someone at Intel having a stroke? Or have they been dominant so long they forgot how to think?
X299 vastly over priced.
X299 higher core count models announced but no where near ready and no specs, what was even the point other than one-upping AMD?
X299 being unsoldered.
Kaby Lake -X.
X299 being heavily feature gated.
X299 having physical unlock keys at a premium.
Coffee Lake delayed and leaving LGA1151.
A refresh of skylake refresh.
WTF?!
