It's official that the name is "Oreo". Android 8.0 Oreo update brings tons of new features along with completely refreshed design like the Android Wear 2.0 and several under the hood improvements which enhance the overall Android user experience. Note that the list is pretty long so it's best using Ctrl+F

The Android updates really aren't that great.  Ones with carriers sometimes include additional bloatware, so you have less space with them.

 

I have a flagship phone, and it will still probably take at least a month before AT&T decides to push out their own update.

Yeah and dats why I always get unlocked phones.

 

Hopefully project treble allows more than 2 years of software updates. Hopefully. Fingers crossed, though I'm not so sure yet.

I am still using Android 4.4

 

I know I could somehow install a custom ROM but I guess it is too much of a hassle. I just use my Phone for web surfing and some other not important stuff.
