They will say they recommend a 650w psu so that the gpu will definitely have enough power to operate at full potential. That gives them a margin of error doing that.

How cool or how hot it will be will depend on the efficiency of the power supply.
Since you didn't say anything about its technical specs there's no way I could tell you that.
Ex a bronze efficiency psu will be 85% efficient so to produce 500w of power for components, around 80 watts will be wasted in the form of heat.
This means power supply will produce noise and fan may run at high speeds and therefore power supply may be noisy.
A gold efficiency psu may run at 92-94% efficiency so there's gonna be only around 30-40 watts of heat produced, which is much less.
edit: rm850 is gold efficiency, over 90% efficient, high quality, it will be perfectly fine.

Yeah, the video card manufacturer has no way of knowing what other components you're gonna use in your computer and what quality of power supply you're gonna have.
Are you gonna use a dual core cpu that consumes 50 watts or you're gonna use a 250 watts Threadripper / 14 core xeon processor?
They can't say use a 550w psu because there are shitty 20-30$ power supplies which say on the label 550w but can only output 200-300 watts on 12v and the rest of 200 watts are only available on 3.3v and 5v.
On modern computers, video cards and processor and fans are all powered from 12v output of a power supply.
So to prevent RMAs and complaints "my video card burnt my power supply" or "psu died and killed my video card", and to cover all possible computer configurations, video card manufacturers inflate the minimum requirements, asking for more than what's really needed.
You're perfectly fine with that 850 watts power supply, it's more than enough and it's a high quality design with long warranty and all that..

Lfc reacted to mariushm in Hypothetical question
Yeah, it's enough.
The Ryzen cpu without overclocking will consume up to around 120-150 watts.
The video card will consume up to 250w ... the 5800 a bit more. Either way, neither will consume more than 300w.
The motherboard will consume around 15-25 watts (chipset, onboard sound etc)
Memory ... give it 10 watts.
2-3 watts for each fan and around 5 watts for each SSD. Around 10 watts for each mechanical drive.
So worse case scenario you're looking at around 450-500 watts consumed from the 12v output an around 25-50w from 5v and 3.3v

Are you planning on using both gpus in the system at once, or are you going to replace one with the other?

Lfc reacted to GoldenLag in Do I need to upgrade my psu? or am i good for now
Actually not the case with how efficiency curves go and noise graphs for PSUs.

yeah its more than good enough.

doesnt matter.
the reasons as to choose the RMx over the RM arent related to the capacitors. more to do with the low wattage noise issue. well that, and partially the fan.

RM850 is a good option, if you decide you need 850W.

Yes, the picture is the 2019 version with 10 years of warranty.
You have not listed your PC specs, so I can't be sure this is the best option.
What I mean, is that most people will not need an 850W PSU. But it depends on your PC list.

You place it in the case and place the fan side towards the open side of the case.
I don't understand what you're asking here.
Yes, there was another RM series PSU in the past, which had and orange/yellow label. The gray label is the 2019 version.

Hey there. I'm assuming you're concerned about this part of the review?
Looking at the CORSAIR Carbide Air 540's internals, I don't think you'll have an issue with PSU thermals. The solid side panel is perforated around the PSU section, which will let air flow into/around the PSU area.

The width and height of PSU's is always the same (because of the ATX standard), so only the length will differ.
This case takes PSU's up to 250mm, the corsair RM850 is 160mm long. (assuming you'll be using the current version/gray label version/not the orange-ish yellow version?)
It will work.

Thank you mate! You understood exactly what iam saying and thanks for images too
This is not problem? because PSU must be side ways. OK 🤗

Lfc reacted to Bartholomew in What case is best case?
Mind you that gpu mount plus the additional riser cable are not included i think and can amount to extra cost (sometimes up to half of the price of the case or so)
Additionally if it replaces the horizontal pci brakcets you might not be able to usee pcie wifi and/our audio cards etc (not a problem if mobo has both to satisfaction).

Lfc reacted to FelixSpacito in Corsair VS450W
Hi all, i'm putting together a pc for 300€ and i choose this Corsair VS450w to go with a APU based system with a Ryzen 3 3200g and 8GB of DDR4 2666Mhz memory. Is the power supply a fair bet?? I really dont want my pc to catch on fire after 2 months seeing the hard work my parents are doing to get me this pc in this times. I live in Italy so if you have to suggest me something better do it with amazon.it on uk or us. i've got max 50€ left for a psu. Thanks for reading and i hope you can help me out here.

You can easily occupy both slots. When used they will take away sata lanes but since you only need to use the 2 NVME drives this is not an issue. Also the lack of heat sink on the second m.2 slot is a non issue. You are all good here.

Lfc reacted to Jjohnson2491 in Tuf X570 caught fire
So I've been using this motherboard for 3 months and today when I started it a VRM caught fire. I've never overclocked or anything using a 600 watt Thermaltake smart power supply for Ryzen 5 2600x. Any clue what would've caused this? I am just hoping nothing else is fried at this point. Also anyone else have issues with Asus horrible customer service?
