gloop got a reaction from Levent in Steam trading cards
Steam does an absolutely terrible job of explaining this system. If you want a video version:

Essentially, most games on Steam have a 'set' of trading cards. You can earn a portion of these by playing the game, or by purchasing cards earned by other players for a small fee on the Community Market. Once you have a full set of trading cards, you can craft a 'badge'. These are collectable items that, when crafted, grant you a small amount of XP, a background, and emote usable in Steam chat and a coupon to be used for a game purchase (these are generally for extremely poor quality games).

The main draw of the cards are to craft badges, which then grant you XP, which then levels up your Steam profile. Every time you level up, you unlock additional friend slots, and every 10 levels you unlock a new 'profile showcase'. Levelling up Steam profiles has become a sort of side-game within Steam itself, with the highest person currently being around level 500.

In my opinion, it's just a gigantic scam for Steam to make even more money as they take a small percentage of each Market transaction. I only purchased trading cards when it was a game I truly enjoyed and thought that it would be worth spending the ~30c to finish by set, craft the badge and then display it on my profile.

They are an easy way of making money if you use ArchiSteamFarm to idle your games, earn all the card drops, and then sell them for a small sum on the Markey. If you have a significant library, you can earn a decent balance to your Steam wallet.

Hmm, there is Daggerfall Unity, a community remake of TES II. It certainly meets the large open world requirement, being roughly the size of the UK, or ~200,000km².

Take away the Fallout license from Bethesda as they have done nothing but destroy any respect I had for it, then get as many former employees of Interplay and Black Isle together and update 1 & 2 for modern systems, and release 3 that they had basically finished before it was cancelled.

Morrowind, as the last good game Bethesda released, deserves a remake.

Planescape: Torment, the best written piece of media I have ever consumed, had already been enhanced but I’d like some original artists to redraw some assets.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks of Magick Obscura, the most interest concept, deserves a reformation of Troika to finish the game that was released unfinished. It’s amazing that this game is so good despite the fact that it was rushed out.

gloop reacted to minibois in Do you think my poor friend would take offense if I gifted him a PC?
Everyone would look at this differently, so it would be difficult to say what your friend would do.
Obviously, it's awesome you're considering gifting them this, but indeed they could see this as "pity" or something similar and dislike it. Of course the flip-side could also be the case, they really appreciate the gift.

In the past, I've seen people talking about these sorts of 'gift' stories online and sometimes they make up some story about how they got it, so take off some of the edge of the gift.
I.e. if you were to gift someone a PC you could say "I won a giveaway, but already have a PC so I thought you could use it!".
Otherwise I've also heard of people gifting something, but then spinning it as if the gift is actually a present towards yourself "I've really been enjoying <game you play> and wanted someone to do co-op with, so I thought maybe you wanted to join me, so I build this PC from some of the scraps I had leftover"

EDIT: by the way, I only mentioned both these, because I've heard them used. I don't think I can recommend the first "giveaway" thing, if it's a lie. The second "leftover part and wanted to game with you" sounds a lot better

Honestly, it really depends on how your friend would see the gift and how your relation is.
I think it's difficult to think of how I would react, as I just don't know their situation.

Wanting scalpers not to exist is like saying you don't want suppliers to exist because they are making money off of you. Scalpers are the byproduct of greedy impatient buyers. Don't forget which one is the cause of the "issue".
