HowardYing reacted to Vilacom in Hardware Unboxed Goes on Twitter Rant in Response to LTT Labs Potshots
Found the not lawyer! Knew you’d show up somewhere lol, yeah they’re gonna throw the guy in jail, perp walk tomorrow. LOL holy shit thats amazing.
Far more likely with regards to multi part videos is the first part doesn’t do well, and they drop it. LTT seems extremely driven by literally just how well a video does, if it does well you get more(look at the tech upgrades), if it doesn’t do well they’re pretty happy to just drop it entirely.
While I dont think Seasonic actually built their tester, provided input is certainly not building. You’re saying you want it designed by a group completely disconnected from the power supply industry? Do you think that would generate useful data?
They’ve posted their power supply tester in multiple videos, it would be pretty simple to look at what it’s made from and track down the individual pieces. Can you tell me what that’s been sourced that would in some way benefit Seasonic when it comes to power supply testing? Or are you just as uninformed when it comes to the science of power supply tests as I am and just want to say something about media you no longer engage with?
Gamers Nexus just posted about their $250,000 new testing chamber…Will you start not watching their content(assuming you do) because now they’re talking about how much money they’re spending on testing equipment that might be a waste of money? Is all of their previous data compromised because their testing conditions were so poor that they needed to spend a quarter of a million dollars to make it more acceptable? Maybe they should re run all their tests so we can be 100% sure the testing environment didn’t effect the data.
If people are impressed by labels then they are people who dont listen to Linus…ever. His primary message is never listen to a single review, go watch multiple things and evaluate everything based on multiple sets of data.
You know what, most of the time, all those reviewers come up with extremely similar data, recommendations, and overall results. So maybe all of them are just wasting their money just like the people who buy the new Mac Pro for the occasional 1% increase over the Mac Studio and we as consumers should just check out all three if that purchase is a relevant one and hey! We benefit from all of it. Look at that

HowardYing reacted to cBrownFTW in LMG Sponsor Complaints
Newbie to the forum. Probably should have spun up an account years ago... anyways...
TLDR - Vessi support sent me a phishing email that I find unacceptable. See https://i.imgur.com/cwrXujw.png screenshot of email thread, and below for the longer-winded version.
Ran into a strange issue, mostly due to my preferences, when attempting to purchase from Vessi. That original oddity is described in a Reddit post I made (https://old.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/111ew3a/vessi_shopping_experience/), but to summarize - I couldn't get tracking info for my order, without installing the 'SHOP' app, which I don't want to do for data privacy reasons (among others).
Mere minutes after making the Reddit post, Vessi sent me what is best described as a phishing email, for some very backwards internal process they have (or a rogue employee that wanted the other half of my details? not sure).
Anyway - in my eyes the phishing email Vessi sent me is super duper unacceptable. Their preference to use SHOP and only allow tracking information via the app is something I can live with - i just wont shop there, but the phishing behavior exhibited by Vessi support shouldn't be happening, and should be a concern for an LTT sponsor. This permalink that includes an imgur link to the email thread, where they ask me for personal information that I already submitted during the order (and could forge within 2 minutes or less):
https://old.reddit.com/r/LinusTechTips/comments/111ew3a/vessi_shopping_experience/j8g4p1o/
Does LTTstore do any similar verifications for orders? Maybe I'm out of touch, but seems fishy AF.
(my order is being refunded, but felt obligated to report the phishing behavior)
EDIT - would be happy to verify any of the emails/orders/receipts beyond the imgur posts I made previously

HowardYing reacted to cmndr in LMG Sponsor Suggestions
Sounds like LMG is being sponsored AMD for the replacement of the Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade.
The Current name for AMD's version is "AMD Ultimate Tech Upgrade"
I'd like to propose "AMD Tech Improvements" or ATi.

HowardYing reacted to Moonzy in Hmm.. Temps?
no one can give you an answer because there's too many factor like workload, case airflow, case components, ambient temps and what not
but the hyper 212 black should handle the 9600k at stock just fine

HowardYing reacted to Spotty in Big Navi might still be faster than the 3080
Everyone wants AMD to be able to compete with a current generation Nvidia high end card, but let's not hype it up too much just yet. Just be patient and wait a month until the card releases and there's independent reviews for it that will undoubtedly compare them to the Nvidia cards.
inb4 *50% better performance than RDNA in raytracing

HowardYing got a reaction from jagdtigger in $7,300 Passive CPU heatsink
Listed as an "organic workstation server fanless supercomputer heat sink", it's 3-D printed from either solid copper, bronze, steel, or aluminium ranging from $1,800 to $7,300. Apart from being described as for i7 chips, not much is mentioned on how it'd mount to a motherboard, let alone, much about its performance.
It's an interesting thought to use this as passive cooling, cause it's practically plopping a giant chunk of metal on a CPU and expecting that to cool it. Maybe the gaps in the metal "balls???" would help dissipate heat, but at the price?

No worries.
Easy Peezy 🤪
An adapted joke here for ya
So a man walks into a bar, and sits down. He starts a conversation with an guy next to him. The guy has obviously had a few. He says to the man:
"You see that dock out there? Built it myself, hand crafted each piece, and it's the best dock in town! But do they call me "Moonzy the dock builder"? No! And you see that bridge over there? I built that, took me two months, through rain, sleet and scorching weather, but do they call me "Moonzy the bridge builder"? No! And you see that pier over there, I built that, best pier in the county! But do they call me "Moonzy the pier builder"? No!"
The old guy looks around, and makes sure that nobody is listening, and leans to the man, and he says:
"but you pee on one CPU cooler..."

HowardYing got a reaction from Moonzy in Radiator Push/Pull?
I went through this a while back for myself. Luke himself said in some video I've forgotten that they prefer doing a pull configuration because it makes it easier for them to clean. But no matter which you choose, it'll have around the same performance. Location however, could affect temperature.
