I was in the same boat as you, but because of the 40% off sale I bought it today, it's still downloading (50Gb's is gonna take all day on Australian internet).

Well the OP just did may head in.
There is no confirmed performance figures on the 300 series, who's to say it's going to perform better than the GTX980.
And with the announcement of AMD ending Mantle, there's really no point in getting excited until the 300 series card comes out.
 
The GTX980 wasn't a wise choice if you were going for a Temporary card, would of been better off with a GTX970 or 290x in the first place.
 
But again if you're returning the GTX980 thinking the 300 series is going to kill it, it's too early to say if that's true.

Buy a gigabyte windforce card and wait 6 months?

I always love trying out linux distros. But it ALWAYS goes like this:
 
1. Start my install.
2. Be really excited
3. Install takes hours to get working correctly with hardware. 
4. All set, but now my excitement level is about 10/100
5. Need to get something done for work, want to play a game, want to do something other than look at the new OS im running. 
6. Revert back to windows. 

We are talking 24 years ago but I can safely say it wasn't a Cyrix, It was a 486DX2 (my bad)
I loved the "turbo" button it had..lol.
 
Oh I should mention I delivered menu's to my entire town everyday for a week to get that 1x CDRom, and the damn thing didn't have a mechanical tray, all done by hand..lol

Though it is true, I did use to program Basic on my Commodore 64, you know making a ball bounce across the screen, text repeat etc etc.
Oh it's also where I pirated my first game after buying the floppy disk addition.

Here's a positive story.
My wife put a video up of my 2 1/2yo dancing to Justin Bieber (don't ask), they flagged the video as copyright.
Guess what, Justin Bieber actually ok'd the video an waved the claim.
 
She has now used his songs for a lot of her cancer video's and he's waved the claim on all of them.
 
On the other hand I uploaded and unlisted a TV show which contained all of 5 seconds from some song, they didn't flagged the TV show only the song. (Was showing it to my brother who's in Afghanistan with his army platoon at the moment.)
Go figure..

Told you, it's freaking huge mate, but it is a full tower, which makes it very tall too..
I'm going to the X9 for case modding purposes, so the Primo will probably end up with the Carbine 500R and H440 in the garage..lol...

I'm running a 4790k myself, and unless they program is designed to take full advantage of Hyperthreading (Which Ableton Live 9 is) it doesn't make a difference.
 
But again if you do have the Xeon there is really no point upgrading to a 4790k unless you're going to watercool and overclock, the Xeoan 1231 v3 is just a 4790 with a slightly lower clock speed (100Mhz) and no intel graphics.
The 4.4Ghz boost on a 4790k is technically only on 1 core unless you set and lock boosts to 4.4Ghz on all cores, then you have to play with voltages etc etc.
 
When I was planning my wife's Photoshop machine I just wanted a "Set and forget" machine, no overclocking to introduce instabilities and something that will last a few years.
So that's why a Z97 board is really pointless unless you're really wanting overclocking, but you then may as well get a K cpu to go with it
Don't be fooled there are some really nice and feature filled H97 boards out there, you just don't get the overclocking.

My 4790k@4.4Ghz manually set to boost on all cores runs perfectly fine at 1.191volts, has been throughly stress tested, and I've been running it like that for months now.

I want one of these cases, they look sick.
My only concern is GPU cooling, with a non reference coolder like the Windforce that vents all the hot air into the case and not out the back, does the lack of side intakes cause the cards to get warmer.
Currently getting a max temp of 73c on my Gigabyte GTX780ti.
 
Other than that, the Kraken x60 would fit so perfectly in this case over the Corsair Carbine 500R.

It's not a "feature" to have those green bars, that's a faulty GPU, seen it many times before.
 
It's happening after the nvidia driver install because Windows is using the generic vga first.
This means Windows can access the card properly and start using gpu based Metro.
 
First try another display cable (DVI, display port, HDMI) but I highly doubt that's the problem.
 
Then RMA the card ASAP.

The "GPU Gauntlet Sorting" is only focused on the GPU's themselves PRIOR to being put on the retail PCB, they don't test the vram in the same way, generally bad vram is what causes the green lines.

Just trying to help, been through enough bad hardware in my 20 years of IT and working in a few "small" service departments (Apple and Acer to name 2..lol)

Have one and absolutely love mine. Rock solid performance and never had any problems. The main reason I bought mine was that it had all the options I wanted but didn't go overboard with things I didn't need. Pretty shallow...but it was also red.
