Thanks for the recommendation, I got mine yesterday and I'm pretty pleased. Earbuds don't fit my ears that well but they don't necessarily fall out, glad they included a screen protector even if it's hella scuffed up already.

back when I was rocking my FX 6300 and GTX 560 TI my uncle bought me a XFX R9 290 for free, that was like two years or so ago. If I was using all new parts I'd probably go 1070 or whatever comes above the RX 480 on AMD's side.

still a steal at this price, picked up 3 even though I missed out on the $275 deal.

A non pirated version of Windows 10, purchase it and you'll probably have all your problems fixed.

Even if they're "close to hitting 4GB of vram" that doesn't show that it's making the FPS worse. A lot of games will use the ram they give them even if there's no performance increases, same with Windows when you give it more ram.

Edit: that is system ram in regards to the statement about Windows.

actually for around that price point I would recommend the Viewsonic XG2401 over that, better color accuracy and less ghosting as well as Freesync.

Build quality seems pretty good, not sure how reliable ASUS is, they're kind of just known because they have good advertising where as Viewsonic doesn't. It has plenty of reviews you can read on Amazon. I purchased the XG2701 while it was on sale yesterday and will have more knowledge about them on the 1st.

Depending on your budget I would max out a platform, i7 4790k on LGA 1150, i7 6600k LGA 1151, it's never fun realizing you want to upgrade to the i7 a year after you've had the i5. I have an i5 right now and getting an i7 because it maxes out my board.

No, if your ram is working it's obviously supported. Even if not listed, kind of difficult for manufacturers to put every type of ram in the supported list. Usually it just indicates speeds and timing so if your board only supports 1333 it will down clock your 1600 anyway.

Bit8xPr0 got a reaction from HeyKitty in Is it worth replacing the thermal compound on my GPU?
Not sure either, only way to know for sure I guess is to do it myself.  In which case I would definitely make a post about it for anyone else curious in temperature gains and what the paste could look like on even a non reference card.

Yeah, I really wish I could get deals like that here. The only other R9 290 options I've seen is a PowerColor TurboDuo for $180?! and a Reference Asus for $180 as well I believe. I think $10 is fair for aftermarket cooling.

Yeah, still get the 4790K and sell extra hardware to get another 290. Then you can have the best of both worlds! XD
