The 7600 non X is limited to 65w and that is quite low compared to other CPU's.
With the arctic freezer duo r34 you should still have plenty of temperature headroom even with PBO on.
I personaly run my cooler at 30% fanspeed up until 93c then 100% fanspeed from 93-95c cause that is where you require the cooling. I like silence and at 30% fan speed my 7700x never goes above 85c unless I do stresstests.
And with the 7000 series bouncing around from 50-85c all the time I dont want my CPU fan to keep going up and down 40 times a minute for nothing.

Put PBO on auto and start gaming 🙂 👍

If you're okay with 60fps, then you're still okay there. From what I can find, Battlefield V is the most intensive, and it can get over 100fps out of the 6700 in matches. It's the jump from 64 to 128 players that really destroys the performance for the old 4c/8t i7 chips, which is a big part of the reason that so many players of Battlefield 2042 want there to be a 64 player option, and why Dice is considering just dropping the player count from 128 to 64 for Breakthrough.

Nvidia vs amd: ONLY IF amd can compete with the 3070 and 3080, you should look into that.

AMD could beat nvidia but ONLY with the prices. For instance getting a 3070 performancelike amd card for 50-100 dollars less would be great. However... Due to costs being lower, those amd cards their cooling could get out of hand... An amd card will always run a bit hotter and/or make a bit more noise, due to fans running much more, then nvidia. So if you don't mind this then yea amd might actually win purely because of the price.

Whatever happens, I'm getting nvidia for sure next time because I own an rx 590 and I don't like it very much anymore.

    -i7 6700 non k, Z170 gaming a, 2100 mhz 16 gb hyperx ram (5 years old)

I don't have DOOM eternal yet so I can't test it.

Anyway, after what you have written and some friends of mine told me afterwards, its too risky. So I've decided that I will be upgrading my cpu but after what I have seen from the 4000 line up.

He said that the numbers of the Ryzen 4000 were dissapointing basically. Names got mixed up too in the past with Zen, Zen+ and Zen 2... First picture is the normal and 2nd is the pro variant. The 4700 is the same as 3700 it seems... Only with better graphics but why use integrated when you have a graphics card...

    phil7990 got a reaction from Gix7Fifty in Should I get a new CPU cooler? (i7 6700)
Hi, I have an i7 6700 (non k). Right now I have a stock intel cooler. I don't want to overclock since overclocking is logically only meant for the K or X versions of processors. Since mine has a boost up to 4.0, I think I'm ok with my processor for a few more years. I don't run many programs, neither do I stream. Just the basic stuff. I make video's butt it's pretty basic too. I don't even have sony vegas. And I don't play hardcore aaa games that are using alot of your cpu.
CPU temps are 35 idle, 55 when gaming and 75 when fully benchmarked.

What I most certainly am going to do is refreshing the thermal paste since I think you should do that every 5 years at the least.

However, what I was wondering was, should I replace this ccooler with a better one? If so, which one do you recommend? I had my eyes on a noctua since my next cpu is most deffinatly going to be a ryzen in the future. But anyway, Noctua is pricey... And I could get an aftermarket cooler but is that even worth it?

Thank you for explaining. There are indeed some cages in the front which might prevent the flow. I'm just beginning to hate this case because it went from white to a bit of yellow due to someone smoking in the house. Can't get it white anymore and its stupid and dangerous to spray/paint white.

I'll see if I have the extra money or not. The most important things now are my psu and my cpu cooler. As you can see, my cpu mobo and ram are still in great shape.

I sometimes play aaa games but always on a 1080 144hz screen, which I most recently bought so this build is great for it untill some aaa game asks more then 4.0 ghz from my cpu or asks more from my gpu or 1 of the things in my build dies.

phil7990 got a reaction from Spudbilly in RX580 clockrate question
Yes indeed, forgot to mention, I have an i7 6700 non k even with a booster (boosts up to 3.9-4.0 even). I don't know at which clockrate this 580 comes. It has OC mode but wanna OC safely ofcourse, with an app. That's why I wanted to ask this.

And I already know about that 144fps. As long as I can game on a smooth 100FPS online, I don't mind gaming at lower settings. Going with a freesync as well btw, but that's all for later. My gpu comes first as I game now on 1080p60hz. But it's a TV, which is apperantly bad, so looking out for a monitor some time eventually.
Might be waiting for black friday even.

    Anyway, thanks for the answer!

I have the same CPU and I was getting 80 - 100 fps in the beta with settings on high (you want to use high settings because ultra settings decrease performance by an exponential amount that isn't worth the increase in visual fidelity; frostbite is a beautiful engine anyway). Getting 144 fps in not as important in battlefield games compared to overwatch and CSGO. If you can stay in the range I was getting, you'll be able to react to everything. 144 fps is important to me when I play overwatch, but it doesn't affect me when I play bf5 or bfbc2. I'll post screenshots of how the game looks on high when I get home. YouTube videos don't do the game justice

It has overclocking in the drivers via "Wattman" lots of third party software otherwise, you can hit 1400mhz on any RX 580, 1500+mhz is the dream, but is unlikely without tons of voltage.

ASUS card review, mine seems fine, cooling seems decent. I just remember jay having really poor thermals on a gigabyte RX 480, might have been fixed whatever the issue was, could have just been a bad card, size seems comparable.

Any 1080p 144hz free-sync display should be fine

for sure want the GPU before the monitor.

Might want to look for an ASUS dual model or something from sapphire/XFX if the price is the same.

Dunno if gigabyte's cooling was fixed on the 580, it was pretty weak on the 480s, about as bad as an MSI Armor card.
