Win10 on USB question

phil7990
Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

Windows 10 installation includes basic drivers that work on 99% of motherboards.

I haven't used a motherboard CD in years, windows just works.

If you do have issues connecting to the internet in the 1% chance that the default drivers don't work then you need to use a different PC to download the ethernet drivers from the motherboard website and then use a USB to move them to the PC without internet, and install from there.

Hi,

So with the option that I might change my case, I would change it into a case without my optical drive.

Nowadays everyone speaks about USB's. Now I've already seen how to do this but I don't understand something.

You know you need internet for the drivers right? Now with this said, my motherboard Z170a gaming, has a CD. And with this CD I can get access to the internet cause of the ethernetdrivers. How does this work then for USB's?? I know that I need to have the creation tool or something onto the USB but it doesn't say something about the mobo drivers. Without mobo drivers=no internet, sound, etc...

Download your drivers onto another USB beforehand. Or onto another drive/create partition on your drive

Alternative you can slipstream the drivers into the Win10 ISO using nlite.

Windows has some built in network drivers, usually they work just fine.

Otherwise you just grab another computer, download the network drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website, place them on a USB drive and install the drivers like that.

Ok so you're saying that this win10 creation tool already has drivers for the mobo on it? Don't I need to select weather its an msi or asus mobo or something? Afterwards I will instantly download the drivers of my mobo though.

Yes it has basic generic drivers. You still need to download and install the official drivers for your board from the manufactures website to get full functionality.

Yes it has drivers that will almost always work on every motherboard.

Unless something is specifically not working like audio or something there is no need to download the drivers from the website.

Usually it can cause problems if you do that.
