HanZie82 reacted to whispous in Over current after breaking my usb port
turn off your computer, and unplug all cables, including, very obviously, the power cable.
Leave it for 10 minutes.
Do not skip those steps.
Use a small, thing flatheaded screwdriver tip to pry those pins AWAY from the inner housing - the pins should be touching _absolutely nothing at all_, not even each other.
Once you have done that, put some electrical tape over the socket and never touch it again.
Try booting.
You may have fried the USB hub chip inside but those pins touching the housing/each other is likely the cause.

HanZie82 reacted to Middcore in Computer Screaming at Night
No, it didn't.
I know that people being loosey-goosey with "literally" is a losing/lost battle at this point, but Jesus Christ, nothing makes me see red more than people using vague, hyperbolic, anthropomorphized language to describe computer problems.
"My PC is tripping bro!"
"All of a sudden my computer just started going crazy!"
Nothing in a GPU is capable of making the type/level of noise he describes.
-
HanZie82 reacted to Dedayog in Computer Screaming at Night
No. A GPU can't make that amount of noise. The fans can whine but not that loud The electronics can coil whine but not that loud.
There isn't anything there to make that noise. Not like a car's belts what can rub and screech.
He is exaggerating, and pretty badly at that. Or outright lying.
Did he mention giving the card back to you, and getting his money back at all? 🙂

Ask him if after powering down the screaming slowd down, as in a wire touching a fan.
Accidents during install happen.
Let him re-check the cabling.
Also because of the fact it happened at night i doubt the loudness, it might've felt like its loud but really isnt.
Just one of the possibilities. 🙂

I know this may seem like an odd question but... how on earth did you manage to get electrons into a drawer?

HanZie82 got a reaction from kirashi in Phone app
Just so people know. If there was an app for this forum it would just be a website in an app (not even a real app, just some browser-wrapper).
You can already do that. Just bookmark the page to your homescreen, and drag the shortcut to your desired place.
Only reason navigation would be easier is because they would change the internet pages to work better in said app.
Why dont ask them to do that on the mobile version of the website.
Because of this there are no real good arguments for an app.
(Notifications should already work, if they dont, blame your browser)
(Navigation is already really good if it needs changing it can be done on the site)

HanZie82 reacted to LogicalDrm in Phone app
What would be the thing mobile app gives that mobile browsing doesn't? For most it has been notifications, but those depend on your chosen browser.

Replacing the cooler wasn't needed. 79 degree in a stress test is perfectly normal.

It really depends on your router or if you have another device that can send the magic packet to wake up your PC.

HanZie82 reacted to will0hlep in PCIe x4 card into an PCIe x1 slot
Yes, a x4 card will work in a x1 slot. But there will be a performance hit.
Maybe your better off getting a USB m.2 enclosure instead.

I posted this elsewhere but I just got around to taking finalized pictures of my hobby room.
Old hobby space before I moved.
New setup
Close up of pc. Small screen is a 7" RPI touchscreen I was going to use in my car but decided against it and it now serves as passive media consumption screen while I work on the big screen.
Printers
Other hobby space. Not pictured is the recently added PC and 3d scanner.

HanZie82 reacted to Drexo in What PDF editor software would you buy?
I finally settled for UPDF, there was actualy a sponsor on an LTT video that made me decide for it.
Price is around 50 USD when I got it in october (there is a sale for black friday right now that is a farse, sells for the same price), perpetual license, easy to use, multiplatform ecxept for Linux sadly.
Going to update how it works. havn't had much time to play around with it.

Hi don't judge but for some reason I can't game on a desk, so I made my set up rlly weird... PC: M-itx i7 11700f, 3060, 32gb ram 3600 MHz. it's motorized to go up and down and to tilt the desk (it has a 12v 15A psu so I can charge Lithium batteries, a 100rpm reductor (for tilt) and a drill gearbox with motor (to go up and down), and as I like to play sim racing from time to time this "weird" set up it's very versatile as you can play with a chair, on the bed, on the couch, or just watch movies.
ps: my mobo doesn't have rgb headers, so I used an arduino conected internally to the usb on the mobo (I run a java script with which I can change the "modes" and colors), an H bridge to run the colors, a generic led strip and everything is connected to the psu.

That's a very clean build!
Why would it die? It's got Ikea on it. As long as you don't try to take it apart to move it it'll last forever.
