rfcokilljoy reacted to Dudiebug in Anything to be worried about with new watercooled PC?
Probably not, only be worried if something goes wrong with the water cooling tube like leaking

rfcokilljoy reacted to Blue4130 in Direct die with no special bracket
Its really not as difficult or dangerous as you make it out to be. Back in the day cpus didn't have heat spreaders. Look at amd Thunderbird cpu's. Millions used and sure, some Chipped, but it wasn't really widespread. Just go in with a steady hand and maybe hold off on the coffee until after the build.

rfcokilljoy reacted to WereCat in Direct die with no special bracket
Even if you do everything correctly, the tiny bit lower temperature won't allow you to get higher OC anyway and it's just too much of a hassle to do + a huge risk of cracking the die.

rfcokilljoy reacted to 5x5 in Direct die with no special bracket
Cracking a die is EXTREMELY easy. It's why nobody in their right mind runs direct die cooling daily. A small bump to the case can end up causing issues if you have a cooler tightened to the die itself.

rfcokilljoy reacted to LyondellBasell in Best singular monitor arm
Take a look at the Kontour series from Chief.
Are they expensive? Yes.
Are they worth it? Also yes.
I'm a big fan of items that just work, as intended, all the time, every time.
Bite the bullet once, and never have to mess with it again.
I have two of their arms supporting 21lb panels.
The gas struts are adjustable/tunable to your monitor's exact weight, and the cable covers hide everything away seamlessly.
They're available in grommet, clamp, pole mount, and wall mount styles.

rfcokilljoy reacted to Princess Luna in Fake benchmarks? Anyone know this channel?
Honestly speaking I do not give credit to channels that won't even have a host behind them.
If we see nothing but stuff a single person with Premiere can do claiming to have all the latest and greatest hardware always without really disclosing test methodology or any thing "behind the cameras" (irony that there are no cameras even) to me it can all easily be faked.

rfcokilljoy reacted to Taf the Ghost in Fake benchmarks? Anyone know this channel?
Highest I've ever heard of anyone even booting into Windows was 3833 on Ryzen 2nd Gen. Gold-tier binned parts aren't likely to do 4133, unless the timings are so loose it's effectively 2133 as double speed/half latency.

rfcokilljoy reacted to GoldenSound in Microphone/headphone controller
To do both in one device would be a USB mixer board.
However if you want properly good audio quality for your headphones, you'll want to get a standalone Desktop DAC.
Something like a schiit Fulla

rfcokilljoy reacted to Brent744 in 7600k to 7700k
Very informative post. My primary machine I use mostly for gaming and I was debating on upgrading to an i7 7700k, the only problem is the friggin thing still cost $470 CAD new. Unless I can find a cheap second hand one, probably better to wait a couple years and go with a 9th or 10th gen i5.

rfcokilljoy got a reaction from Brent744 in 7600k to 7700k
I upgraded from a 7600k to a 7700k today and im not getting the performance i expected. The 7600k was at 5.2ghz, and my 7700k is at 5ghz (for now).
Cinebench scores are at around 1015 for the 7700k
Battlefield 1 still drops below 100fps when cpu bound. And all other games have dropped about 2fps at 1080p.
I have a 1070ti and 3200mhz ram btw. Anyone got an explanation?

rfcokilljoy reacted to Cereal5 in sli with different models
No, HB only comes rigid. I'm not sure if running 2 normal bridges will do anything... Might be a google question
-
rfcokilljoy reacted to Cereal5 in sli with different models
Well... If you have a soft bridge then yeah it'll be fine. But not a hard one.
edit: it depends on the dimensions of your Palit card. If they are the same, then you can use a HB bridge no problem

rfcokilljoy reacted to Cereal5 in sli with different models
the GPU has to be the same. But you can SLI different models.
For example: Your Palit 1070 Ti and a founder's edition 1070 Ti. Or any other, as long as it's a 1070 Ti. The SLI fingers should be the same across all cards.
That said, I'd still recommend selling your card and buying either a 1080 Ti or a 2080. I don't care if you said don't try to talk you out of it, I'm still gonna say it. If you had a 1080 or 1080 Ti then I would understand more.

rfcokilljoy reacted to Jurrunio in so near to 5.2ghz
because top boards allow using less voltage to run any frequency, which means I don't wear out the CPU as fast?

ML240? A good AIO can also help then. EVGA CLC280's a good option for lower budgets
Z270-H is true 4 phase, Z270-F is fake 8 phase. Basically means Z270-F has twice the max current output, but only marginally better voltage spike suppression.
Good OC board? Boards like the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon, Asrock SuperCarrier, Taichi are 'good', but I myself would do 5ghz+ attempts only on the top boards like the Maximus 9, Gaming 9, Professional Gaming i7, Xpower etc.

Z270-F is better, though I'm more inclined to say 'suck less'

Use better TIM lol or LM if you didnt. What’s your cooler?

rfcokilljoy reacted to Canada EH in so near to 5.2ghz
Will the extra hertz get you a few extra fps while gaming or is it just a hobby to get highest hertz, if so just buy and sell cpu's but be sure you got a good mobo. Sooner or later silicone will say hello and give you 5.2
-
rfcokilljoy reacted to Brooksie359 in so near to 5.2ghz
Honestly I would keep it as is and be ok with it because it's still quite fast even for an overclocked 7700k.
-
rfcokilljoy reacted to Cereal5 in so near to 5.2ghz
... no not really. You can mess with system agent voltage and cache voltage (if that’s separate from CPU). As mentioned above, cooler temps will be more stable. You can also delid. That’s about it
