How come there is no announcement thread yet? Just a bunch of threads about rumors still, or threads being locked for not following the guidelines.

Nvidia has announced two new graphics cards! These are the first cards to be announced in their new 1000 series.

    Some general information:
TSMC 16nm FinFET (first time in 4 years see GPUs get smaller transistors). New architecture focused on improving CUDA efficiency (Nvidia said 2x efficiency versus Maxwell for gaming purposes). Simultaneous Multi-Projection Technology - Increase efficiency for VR and multimonitor games. GPU Boost 3.0 - No idea how this will be different from 2.0. DirectX FL12_1 capable (which does not really tell us a whole lot). DisplayPort 1.2 Certified and DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 Ready (the certification process for 1.3 and 1.4 might not be done yet). SLI HB (High Bandwidth) - Basically just higher bandwidth (for the faster memory) SLI bridge that will be needed for SLI now. Nvidia VRWorks Audio - Path tracing audio API (can trace how sound will bounce before it hits your ears).
Founders edition will be out first and it will have the new Nvidia stock cooler. The regular editions will come a bit later and only have third party coolers.
Nvidia claims the GTX 1080 will be faster than two GTX 980 in SLI. They also say it will be faster than the Titan X.
For VR gaming it will be twice as fast, and 3 times as efficient as the Titan X.

1080 was able to overclock to over 2GHz with the stock Nvidia cooler.
    The 1080 features GDDR5X on a 256-bit memory bus, running at 10Gbps/pin.
    The 1070 uses regular GDDR5.

I am really looking forward to seeing how they perform in benchmarks. I don't trust Nvidia's numbers but if what they are saying ends up being accurate, that it performs better than two 980s in SLI, then it will be really good price:performance. I would have liked to hear more about other features and possibly some gaming benchmarks but I guess that will have to wait until full reviews. It seems like Nvidia are going for the high end market first with these cards. That's in contrast to AMD which have been said to go for more of the mid-range market first and then the high end market in late 2016 or early 2017.

I am really excited for this new generation of cards. GPU tech has been stagnant for so long thanks to the problems of going below 28nm transistors. Hopefully we will return to the good old days of huge performance jumps each generation, like the ones we saw ~5 years ago.

Will you upgrade to a new GPU?

Perfect moment om glasvezel aan te leggen. Maand later komen ze de glasdoos plaatsen...maar niemand gaat een pas-gelegde woonwijk openbreken om de kabels naar de huizen te leggen.

Anyone remember back in December 2013 when this wacky concept for a film by Laser Unicorns launched as a project
on Kickstarter? Well now with the funding reaching $630,019 and with over 17,713 backers making the Kickstarter
successful, the film has finally been released today!

Also David Hasselhoff was involved and was featured in the lead soundtrack called "True Survivor"
which you can see here in a form of a music video:

Well I'm going to go and see how insane this film is and if it lived up to it's expectation

drok reacted to rodion.zissou in My Experience Gaming 1080p on 4k Monitor
I've seen a lot of misinformation on this subject so I thought I'd share my experience to help others with similar questions. There are also a few side notes of my experience with this specific card and monitor.

Do games running at 1080p on a 4k monitor appear blurrier than they would on a native 1080p monitor?
Does scaling work well with Windows 8.1?
How do gtx 980s fair in real-world 4k use?

I jumped on the 4k bandwagon with an ASUS PB287Q and a reference gtx 980 (time to update my profile and signature). I used EVGAs step up program from an ACX SC GTX780 for around $60 USD + $50 USD in shipping. I'm pleased. I also splurged and bought this 4K monitor even though I swore I'd hold out for a monitor offering 4K, GSYNC and IPS (which was just announced!!! yay!!). My idea was that even though my single 4GB 980 wouldn't be able to handle most AAA games at 4k with decent settings, I could simply play in 1080p in those, and 4K in less demanding situations thanks to the exact 1/4 pixel ratio. Let me say right here this was indeed the case. It hasn't been quite that simple though. The first thing to be aware of (of course) is Windows scaling. Being new to 4k, even though I was familiar with scaling and how it worked, I forgot about it a few times and even underestimated it's extension into games! So, when I fired up Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite, and Alien Isolation to test out my theory of seeing s nice 1080p image on my 4k monitor I was disappointed to see blurry menus and subpar visuals in game. I though "Oh no! They were right! Native will always be better!" But, after simply turning of  scaling my games looked great. I compared what I was seeing in game on my PB287Q(27"3840x2160) and my VG247QE(24"1080p), which were nearly identical. I say nearly because as someone else pointed out on another thread there is a very slight difference. Very very slight. This difference has to do with the squareness of the individual pixels. The pixels on the 1080p monitor are slightly more rounded, thus, for lack of a better term, blending with surrounding pixels more. Whereas the 4K monitor's pixels (though invisible to me) are squarer and more defining. All that I could perceive was this very slight difference and that was only while looking at them 2" from the screens. Anywho, there's your answer. You will be able to game perfectly at 1080p on a 3840x2160 monitor. Another thing to note here is that you can turn scaling off for either or both monitors, all or specific applications. Right now I simply have all scaling turned off but when I work up the energy I dial in all the applications and games to my liking.

On to the monitor itself. I'm returning it. I bought it on Amazon Warehouse for ~$550 US used but in pristine condition. Sadly I'm experiencing the popping and flickering that others have reported. This is somewhat of a relief as I originally (before I saw such a good deal on a near Pro Art ASUS 4K monitor with a stellar Linus review) waiting it out for a monitor that would have everything I wanted, 4K, IPS and GSYNC. Thankfully it was announced at CES, so I hopefully haven't too long to wait for such a monitor.

And finally the reference 980. So the main reason I went for the reference 980 was my plan to run 2xSLI and I figured it would be the best solution as far as cooling. Although a lot of people including Logan of Tek Syndicate seem to be happy using aftermarket cards for their 980 SLI setups. I was indeed able to OC getting around 1.65GHZ on the core though my ram didn't go above 4GHZ which seems to be at odds with a lot of other OC results. Maybe I have Samsung and they have Hynix VRAM or vise versa. I don't know. With the rumors of an 8GB maxwell card coming soon I think I'll just save up for that upgrade to help me run 4K.

I hope this information was helpful to you. I will be buying the ASUS PG27AQ as soon as it's available. I do love my VG247QE, it's lusciously high frame rates and low input lag but I crave the 4K and IPS panel and am excited to test out GSYNC (good riddance VSYNC). The PB287Q....well it's malfunctioning so I have to let it go.

Exactly, this is the point I was making earlier, if 50% of computer users are using a dual core, then you should be making sure that your game works on dual cores, even if its just on the lowest settings

We are forgetting Far Cry 3 ran on the same engine, with the same graphical fidelity, some of the textures and animations are ripped straight from 3, and it ran fine on dual cores, why does it suddenly not work now?

every other demanding AAA game works just fine on a dual core, its clearly either badly coded, or an artificial restriction - neither of these are good

I'll start off by saying that i'm not really used to makeing posts, so this might end horribly.
I'm also sorry about the bad lighting in the pictures. My office isn't the greatest place to take pictures.

    Before we start

    What is the AOC U3477PQU?
It's a 34" (86,72cm) computer monitor with a 3440x1440 resolution, in a 21:9 aspect ratio. It uses the same LG panel as the
. However I would argue that it has a better stand, but I'll get back to that.

Why did I get this monitor?
Due to some rearranging of my home office, I no was no longer able to fit my regular dual 1080P monitor setup, along with my 2560x1080 work monitor.
So to save on desk space, I decided to get the AOC U3477PQU and just use the same monitor for my day-to-day computer and my work computer.
I also love games, so I was looking forward to seeing how games would look in it.

Edit: I have only had the monitor since Tuesday, so I might miss something.

Voltage scaling and testing doc here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z_svEsMZesaDSTL8LMopLMayjpRny8pDwtx-uojuAIw/edit#gid=0

    some benches. beat slick

New benches with moar speed and even some over 5ghz

    the motherboard:
    Good:
the orangeness, because that adds an extra 50mhz to your oc
the dimm slots being soldered to the surface of the board makes it very interesting
massive gap between the pci x16 and x8 slot so when you do 2 way sli/cf your cards can breathe easily. they go 16x, 4x, 8x, 4x
the onboard buttons are a great idea, but i don't actually use them
the bracket for expansion cards is great for people like me who run pc's on top of the box for months before i can find a case for them
the rear i/o is great with a ps2 port for a proper keyboard.
the right angle sata ports will make it much better for cable management when i do put it in a case.
the voltage checkpoints are really useful if cpuz is lying, i haven't used them yet, but i intend to use them tomorrow.
the options in the bios are great, you can set all the things and turn lots of things off that i don't care about like temperature protection a pwm cpu fan control
the overall layout of the bios is pretty good and you can do a fixed voltage or an offset voltage!
the pic of the board on the box frozen is epic
the box is high quality and has a good texture.

    Bad:
the top pcie slot it at the very top which means i cant use it with my heatsink
getting into the useful bit of the bios is too hard, i have to press f2 twice after entering the bios to get it into the advanced mode.
there is a small section of the board wasted on the bottom left for a separate bit of pcb for the audio. it would rather the board be £5 cheaper.
it only has 8 power phases so the vrm heatsink isn't L shaped and massive like the z77 up7 was. this reduces the e peen factor

    The pentium G3258
(note: this is my opinion on my particular chip and i know some will be better and some will be worse.)

    Best:

    Good:
£50 for an intel cpu that can oc properly. epic price
    its a pentium
when overclocked it can match all i3's at stock even at a 4.6-4.7ghz 24/7 oc
it doesn't run very hot so you can run it on a cheap cooler
mine does 4.6ghz with xmp ram (2400mhz cl10) on 1.2v which is great
at low-mid oc's it uses a tiny amount of voltage
    it will hold 2400mhz ram
its faster than most dual core amd chips, on a single core.

    Bad
there is a serious lack of 5ghz benchmarking at a reasonable voltage.
the worst scaling after 4.7ghz ever.
    complete lack of bclk overclocking.
its worse than ivy after 4.6ghz
i'm not impressed with the single thread performance. just the fact that i can only get 2cb more than my i5 is poor.

Next i plan to do a few test with a gpu's and also i will do some more cpu benchmarks. i still need to see how far i can push it on 1 core and also see if i can make my ram any faster.
