But even if they have one, a PI wouldn't have enough processing power to make use of the nvme bandwidth.

Sure there maybe a bottle neck, but the question that I have for you? Are any of your games dipping below 75fps? If not then honestly its not time to upgrade.

I am running a 4770k non OC with a 1080ti on 1440p ultrawide 100hz getting 115 to 140 fps on average. I play at 100fps, so until I see my frames averaging below 100fps I will stick to my setup or consider overclocking. My low is 80fps also.... I had people say my 4770k is a bottle neck, im sure it is.... but my rig, bottle neck or not.... It gets the job done.

Yeah for gaming I don't see a big difference between 4000 series to 8000 series processors. I don't feel that spending money on a CPU, DDR4 Ram, and a MOBO is going to change my current gaming experience. I already game at 1440p ultrawide with 100hz so its not worth spending $700 to upgrade it all.

Now if I was still working from home and processing massive amounts of images and needed it for work flow. Then I would upgrade my rig. However for gaming, I have yet to come across a game that challenges my cpu to the point where it effects my gaming experience. There maybe titles out there a one or two, however, I don't play them.

Always base your upgrades on your needs not because your system is being out bench marked.

I just bought the Ziotec 34 ultrawide 1440p 100hz and love it.... Only thing I would improve would be the stand, but for 515$ I will take it.

Thanks,  they work fine.  After i fixed it, just annoying the amount of time that was wasted for something that should have been a simple job.

The LEDs i got though work great,  ill be buying more this week.

Can you run ethernet between the rooms? You can convert HMDI to ethernet and that solves your Video/Audio and then look into optical USB for Mouse and Keyboard. Your still looking at a pricey solution if you can't go with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

For my PS4 I run an HDMI switch, to my PS4, then convert it to ethernet. The ethernet goes to each bed room and converts back to HDMI. So I can play my PS4 in my office, living room, and bed room. The controller has no connection issues through the house so I am clear there.

JusticeBeaver got a reaction from Orion85 in Looking to get in the tech industry, interested in Cyber security as it as hot topic these days but how do I go about this?
Cyber Security is very vague because I work in an area where CS is more management, policy, table top, controls, and etc. It does not really revolve out pentest or the hollywood version of CS that everyone knows. I do break down boards to the bit level to put security policy in place for how we handle hardware and what mitigation we are willing to take for our system. It is not glamorous, but the pay and demand is outstanding.

For me its not really ideal for my passion, but it allows me to make enough money, where I can run my own servers at my home, pentest my own labs, and have the financial freedom to do what I want really. I work with engineers for configuration and change management and write RMF packages. If your interested in this line of work I would recommend looking into security + and get a few years of experience under your belt, and then your CISSP. Holding a CISSP easily nets you 140k on average.

I would just like to share my results with my non OC 4770k, EVGA 1080ti FTW, and 1440p Ultrawide results.

I was very concerned about my CPU being a major bottle neck with my new 1080ti and if I would have issues once I go to an ultrawide. I loaded up shadow of mordor ultra everything and ran the benchmark with a high of 150fps Low of 80 and average of 110. So I am very happy with these results for my older gaming rig. I was concerned that I would have to upgrade to coffee lake to play AAA titles with my new monitor, but I learned that I can now stretch this old 4770k system out longer. I plan to do some OC once I get everything in my new case that is more breathable, since I am air cooled.

But figured I would share this in case anyone was on the fence about doing an upgrade.... I don't have many more titles I can benchmark, but after I OC my system, I planned on making a little video on it.

This is not meant to be a smart ass comment so please don't take it that way, but to anyone in the future that reads this for troubleshooting.

If you do not have the ability to create configuration backups, snap shots, etc make sure you isolate your changes gradually. If your playing around, make ONE change at a time and document it, on paper. This may seem like it takes time, but it can save you hours or days of back tracking. It also allows you to create a training binder of what things do.

This must be some of that common core math.. 8700k = 379.99 1600x = 239.99.... If the 8700k costs 90% more... That makes it 38$ for the 1600x? I don't know but the engineer in me is a firm believer that when you attempt to prove a point you quantify it not using hyperbole's.

Yeah, my plex server is a dual xeon machine... I ran Kodi off my gaming PC and just didn't like it, don't want to violate any rules on the forum so I will keep it vague, but with the combination of usenet, plex, and a nas I have a pretty efficient set up.

especially if your looking to get into pentesting. Its important to understand everything up the OSI model of how things work to get to where you are and the different ways to accomplish your end goal. At work, you may have 4 options that accomplish what you need, but if you only practiced 2 of them you may not be able to properly test your system.

if your building a "Gaming PC" do NOT buy threadripper lol. It is a fantastic chip, but for multithreaded workloads. Its not really designed to be the king of gaming so you can get its level of power out of something waaaay cheaper.
out of the ryzen series, an R7  1700 would be good for gaming, multitasking, streaming, recording, ETC. if you dont need all that out of it, you could get an R5 1600 and OC it and get basically the exact same gaming results out of it for a good portion cheaper, and still be able to do a good ammount of multitasking with it as well. For team blue, i would definately wait til coffee lake comes out and see the exact benchmarks for their new lineup. the i5 8600k sounds like its going to be a great bang for the buck gaming CPU, and the 8700k is gonna be the ryzen equivalent of great gaming and everything else all in one and is supposedly gonna kick the crap out of everything else..
If your worry is bottlenecking your gpu by having an underpowered cpu, its actually pretty hard to do nowadays with how strong they make them. gaming on 1080p, a pentium G4560 doesnt bottleneck the GPU until it reaches the 1080TI - Titan levels, and thats a dual core HT chip lol.

All in all, your PC now seems fine. If its a must that you upgrade, it basically depends on how much headroom you want for multitasking needs for how many cores/threads you want out of a cpu, and how much you wanna spend. R5+ and i5+ and you should be fine. Hope this helps a bit

The list is insane for disqualifying factors. Years ago they found an major issue with attrition and during the Clinton administration they decided to tighten up. There were to many people washing out in boot camp or finding out legal issues that disqualify them after arriving to bootcamp. So a ton of wasted money on processing and training. There are many waivers that can be put into place. Such as depression is a disqualifying factor, but if you can show documented proof that after 2 years of supervised counseling sessions you no longer need any medication (off all forms for 2 years) and a Dr. states you are no longer depressed then you can apply for a waiver.

No everyone is cut out for it and honestly you will be put in positions that at times you wish you can either not see or avoid. I suffered from combat related PTSD and was non deployable for 4 years as a result of it. On the flight deck of an air craft carrier ONE wrong judgement call can cause the lives of many. It is a very high tempo fast pace job, there are some MOS, Rating, or what ever you want to call the job as in acronym per branch that are easier. Such as, Admin, however, on a ship that administrative support staff maybe put in a situation where they are fighting a fighting a fire or responding to a security alert. This has nothing at all to do on wither or not a trans individual should be able to join. If ANY individual has the mental and physical capability to serve they should have the opportunity to apply.

Security+ is a standard for understanding the concepts of CS.
If you want to go CS your goal should be CISSP.

If it's pentesting start learning programming language and understanding how code is written. Watch the DEFCON lectures. They won't really teach you allot but help you understand real world and not Hollywood hacking.

Next build a vmware network, get metaexploit, wind, winserver, and kalilinux then exploit your VMs. Much of this world is self taught and home labs.
