Mangohud can be used to limit FPS too. "Why would I do that" you might ask, well slightly lower FPS is better than frametime spikes, and some games limit your choice of "FPS limit" to fractions of your vsync freq.

EDIT: If you set a config file for mangohud, and edit said file whilst it's "live" it updates too, a bit like conky does, useful for diagnostics.

What the title says, let me begin:

    Gaming
Mangohud -> FPS Counter and System Info Overlay vkBasalt -> Use some of the Reshade shaders natively on Linux (can be enabled globally for all Vulkan Apps) Goverlay -> GUI manager for the 2 aforementioned utilities Gamemode -> Set the CPU and GPU for maximum performance Gamescope -> Compositor that may help with some games not starting, as well offering other extra features (like HDR and FSR 1.0 for all games) ProtonUp-Qt - Mainly to manage custom Proton/DXVK/Wine for Steam/Lutris
    Streaming
OBS -> Video recording and Streaming App with amazing FFMPEG Encoding in Linux starting from OBS 30 and above. OBS Background Removal -> No Green Screen? This will save you.

sladewatkins reacted to Adam Pilolla in PSA for pre-ordered Merchandise that was not available
This seems to be, overall, a messaging problem. Most customers who encountered issues with their pre-orders were provided with as much merchandise as we had on-hand, and told to contact customer service to receive the rest. That has officially been the process the entire time; we even added a unique subject header for it in our contact form.

Obviously in OP's case, they were either told/experienced something different (which is entirely possible as, due to the hectic environment of LTX and thus the difficulty of spreading information amongst our staff and volunteers) or for whatever reason had a different expectation, and it's easy to see why that would be disappointing. For that I do apologize.

As for exactly why we've chosen to handle these cases in this way, that is because:

    1. While we do have records of what orders were picked up vs. not, we do not have records of what orders were parted out at the con vs. not. Why is that? Because the software we were using at the con didn't support such recordkeeping.
    2. A variety of other organizational factors that I'm not at liberty to discuss here.

Obviously the best solution here would've been if the issues surrounding pre-orders had never happened, and preventing that in the future is going to be the focus of our efforts. LTX2023 was very successful in a lot of ways, but it also was clear where we had not succeeded and we're already at work to ensure those mistakes aren't repeated, to the best of our ability.

I know @Electronics Wizardy recommended OpenCore Legacy Patcher [OCLP], and I absolutely agree, but I wanted to add my own two cents, having run Linux on a MacBook.

It's... fine? Depending on the distribution, there can be either many issues or so few issues that you'd probably be fine. I think Linus Torvalds used to use Fedora (his distribution of choice) on an (now ancient) MacBook Air at some point, but I have no idea what his experience with that was like. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Then of course, there's the fact that some things just won't work properly, or at all (like Apple ecosystem integration). WINE isn't a solution for everything, unfortunately.

As for my recommendation: well, I say this having used Ubuntu 20.04 on a 2011 MacBook Pro during the pandemic for school... I'd recommend OCLP until Intel gets axed by Apple entirely, especially if you're already accustomed to the macOS environment. Maybe even throw a cheap SSD or similar in (if your computer doesn't have one already). That'll buy you at least another year or two at least. I can at least vouch for the effectiveness of OCLP, having used it on plenty of machines in the past.

    Hope this helps!

General spec looks good to me!

    And as for this:
My advice is to not underbuy your PSU! I highly recommend you throw things into PCPartPicker.com as it'll give you an estimate of how many watts it could potentially pull from the wall. Once you have that, find a PSU that's at least double that estimate — and I repeat, do not underbuy it!!!

    Yeah, exactly.

I'm almost certain that, at the time, the TikTok where Madison made this joke was approved by Linus or someone else in management. It's content, not reality. I've said it once and I'll say it again: the truth is — we don't know what happened and speculating on what did is dangerous. That's the point of the investigation, to find out what happened, and figure out next steps. (And from what I can tell, Terren seems to know what he's doing, so to everyone here: let's let him do the job he was hired to do.)

And content produced and published externally by a company does not necessarily represent the company's environment internally.

I'm personally not forming any opinions, etc. on the allegations until the investigation has concluded. In my opinion, neither should anyone else.

That form's a little outdated, but still works. According to every Apple employee I personally know, or have interacted with on social media, the most effective way is through Feedback Assistant: https://feedbackassistant.apple.com/

We've identified the issue and flagged it to the forum software devs, but the fix is likely to be somewhat complex (and specific to the fact that there are loads of really large topics that would have been returned), so it may never actually get fixed.

I'd try the mods that exist to let you run newer mac os versions than are officially supported. Take a look at open core legacy patcher

Was thinking of moving back to Linux myself, and this was one of the Distros I was looking at. Windows 10/11 have been really buggy for me, especially these last few weeks, and an annoying issue that started was drivers just simply getting overwritten with older versions by Windows Update.

I don't really feel comfortable speculating on whether or not it's "worse than expected" because truth is, we don't know and won't know until this is all over.

We've been down this road before a few years ago. I can't link to the video where Linus digs into it, but I believe it took a couple days or so to recover fully from the security incident. I'm willing to bet this will be the same here.

The account likely won't return to the site until everything is all clear and has been investigated fully. That's where I think the conversations should be left until we hear otherwise, personally.
