Did you format the drive during re-installation? If you open up C do you see a windows.old folder?

You can move this to somewhere else or delete it if you're really sure you've got everything off the old installation you need.

Word of advice, don't buy a surround sound headset. They are just a mixture of a marketing gimmick and a software solution to hardware problem.

Instead look at purchasing a dedicated pair of headphones for a similar budget (look for a wide soundstage, as this helps with gaming). The advantage being you'll get much better sound for your money.

Add a mic to the headphones to mimic a "headset"

My advice is to buy a pair of cans that are closed-back with good noise isolation instead, they will just sound better.

With that said, I know Bose does well in the noise cancelling space.

Good choice on the components. Consider making sure the PSU is semi-passive (meaning it doesn't spin unless under heavy load), likewise for the GPU (Asus STRIX cards for example).

Pick the cooler based on whether or not you plan to OC.

Go for 140 fans because being larger means they can move more air at a slower RPM (less noise) install the noctua Low Noise Adapters. As for the setup I'd go 1/2 at the front as intake and 1 at the back for exhaust. That way the air that is exhausted from the CPU cooler will be removed from the case straight away.

FYI "can someone please help me" is a terrible title for a post.

We're going to need more information here. Are you talking about an external USB drive. Have you tried it on other PCs?

Is it an internal SATA drive separate to the drive containing windows? Have you tried reseating the data cable? Is it not showing up in disk manager?

The is an old acronym in the IT business. STFW - Search The Fucking Web. I don't mean to be a dick, I'm trying to help you in the long run. There isn't really any debate around the process. Just follow a youtube tutorial, Linus did one many years ago I'm sure.

At that price point (the speakers), I should think it'll be impossible to notice a difference in audio fidelity.

With that said, separate (from the mobo) audio sources can be useful if your mobo has poor shielding and your speakers are picking up electrostatic noise. This isn't normally a problem with very modern mobo's because they've come leaps and bounds (even in the last few years) in terms of shielding tech.

As the previous posts have said, test it using the onboard first, and add the sound card if necessary.

Gaming laptops can be portable, but those are not in his budget.

For increased productivitiy, please don't recommend ULV CPUs. Take a look at this:

Depends on the year of manufacture.  The new ones may be okay, but if it's a 2011-2012 example I'd stay well clear.  The ST3000DM001s of that time period are the ones famous for having a 30+% annual failure rate.

And for anyone claiming that Backblaze was wrong, Wendell had the exact same results and even gave up on RMA-ing them even though they were still under warranty.

There's also someone on the forum (forgot the name ... EDIT: Turns out it was AnonymousGuy) who had 20 or so of those drives in Raid60 in his NAS.  He couldn't swap them out fast enough to keep up with the pace at which they were dying, which eventually caused the array to fail.

The WD would be the better option for sure.  Otherwise the SSD should be fine, those are pretty reliable nowadays, more so than HDDs actually.

theklax reacted to AnonymousGuy in Seagate ST3000DM001 reliable?
Under no circumstance should you use that drive model number.  I put 24 into service and had them failing so fast I couldn't even replace them quick enough with the shipping time.  Refurbs were even worse that I got back and had probably a 50% rate of dying within the first 10 seconds under load.  Seagate sucks massive cock.  Backblaze and the tidal wave of negative Newegg reviews should be a hint that drive has critical design flaws.

And lol ^ this guy remembered my story.

If you're going to use a software that doesn't support GPU acceleration, it doesn't matter if you get a GTX or Quadro or other type/brand of GPU.  But I'd get a dGPU instead of using the iGPU of the CPU for the simple reason that it takes the load off the CPU.

Instead of a different GPU, perhaps you should consider a different software that supports GPU acceleration.  Like the full version of Premiere Pro or something like DaVinci Resolve free (which supports GPU acceleration to a certain degree).

Also keep in mind that GPU acceleration is not used in every aspect by video editing software like Premiere or Resolve.

Finally don't get a Quadro unless you have specific reasons why you need a Quadro.

Buying a new smartphone is about picking the one that is within your budget and has the features that you're really looking for.
If you're a big camera guy, and like a stock android experience(great battery, not waterproof): Google Pixel
If you're into a more rounded experience, at the expense of a slightly poorer camera and a skinned OS: Samsung
If you're looking to save a bit of coin and get an almost stock android experience: One Plus 3

I could go on, but that is the general idea. All Android phones have their strengths and weaknesses.
Personally I picked Samsung this generation because 1. I think phones should be waterproof in 2016/17 2. Samsung Pay and wireless charging are cool bits of tech. 3. I liked the full glass construction 4. They fixed their over saturation of colours and bloated OS. (But hey their Notes exploded, so they are not perfect!)

Or, you could buy the latest iPhone and let Apple to tell you the things that are important in a phone

I have two micro USB cables that look exactly the same in my bag of tech stuff. One of the fits my phone properly, the other does not. I always get the wrong one out of my bag.

Luckily USB Type C is the norm now with phones at least. You'd be hard pushed to get a non-Type C phone if you bought one of the latest releases. Unless of course you go with the "forward thinking" iPhone which uses a proprietary connector.

The different in amount would actually be the warrant, the prebuild system (you know you just need to plug in power and switch on and it WILL work), custom job (paint or whatsoever that is inside the system) and a whole lot more. To be honest, if you really count those in, the different is really not that much. Yes there will still be a different but just not really a lot more.

PS, Mine is DIY and not prebuild.

Of course nothing is 100% assured, but don't you think that it is appropriate for the context? I can buy a laptop or a phone and reasonably expect that it should "just work" when I receive it. Of course it could get damaged in shipping, and that does happen to people but is it not unreasonable to assume you'll receive a working piece of kit. The same is true here, I should be able to trust a system builder to package my system in an adequate way.
