Audio switching

Go to solution Solved by Naeaes,

Right-click on the speaker in the task bar and pick "Playback devices".

Right-click on the window and make sure both "show disabled" "show disconnected" are enabled.

Then make sure both HDMI and speakers are enabled and detected as plugged in.

Then right-click on speakers and enable both "set as default device" and "set as default communications device".

Save and exit.

Edit: Just to clarify, "speakers" can mean "headphones" depending on your other hardware, windows might not be able to differentiate between speakers and headphones, hence it calls everything "speakers". If instead you have "heaphones" visible in there, set that as your default.

Hi

Okay, I don't know if I did something to the settings or not( I don't think so).

But, when I plug in my headphones my Pc, it won't automatically switch to head-phone output. It sticks to the HDMI output.

Can someone please explain to me how to fix this. I want it to automatically switch the output stream when I switch to the headphones. And when I unplug it switch back.

Thanks.

disable the HDMI output in playback devices? or set the headphones as defult and then unplug them and plug them back in and see if that helps. cant see a reson to use shitty monitor audio tbh

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I used to use a simple little utility "setSoundDevice" that would switch audio outputs for me (between my external headphone DAC and speakers, worked great. I've heard there is a audio switcher app that you can get that just sits in the system tray. It may not be automatic, but it is a least one click.

Autohotkey.

One keyboard press to switch default audio device from one to another.

This is what I did for a long while before I ran both headphones and speakers off of the same DAC/amp.

This. Give it a quick google search, there is a ton of scripts available that can achieve this. It's hard to guide you through the specifics, since we do not know your concrete specs, but it's not that hard to set up.

You're right, this solution would be just as effective. Autohotkey is an incredible thing.
