Intel has not been focusing on performance lately, just reduced power. Mobile devices are an ever-growing market, and Intel does not have a strong presence there because their platform is not as power efficient as ARM chips used in most phones and tablets currently. Intel is trying to change that.
You are correct there is not much better than the i7-2600 and that generation, unless you are looking at motherboards and features and things like that outside of pure performance. I'm still running a 2500K and an i5-2520M laptop myself. Nothing has really improved since Sandy Bridge generation except power consumption, what you've got now is right up there with the best of them. There's no reason to upgrade unless you want a more modern motherboard.
As other posters have noted, core frequency by itself is not an indicator of performance between generation, the design of the cores (micro-achitecture) is what really matters, but in either case performance has not been improving noticeably, neither in clock frequencies or architecture. Not sure if you were aware of that, or just meant that clock frequencies haven't improved and were accidentally right that performance hasn't gone anywhere.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about when they say current chips are much faster than 2nd generation chips. No, they aren't. Anyone can do a Google image search of "Sandy Bridge vs. Haswell" and browse through benchmark after benchmark of nearly identical performance, keeping in mind that the clock frequencies do get set 100MHz higher each generation too, which makes the true difference even slimmer than what the benchmarks show.

Are you asking about playing games at 1080p on a 4k monitor?  If so then it'll be pretty much as easy to run as it would be on a native 1080p monitor.

Yep I'm pretty sure this is them hitting their bottom price for the next year or so considering they're still TN panels.  They won't go below the price of 1440p monitors.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would personally prefer to have one giant monitor packed with pixels instead of having multiple monitors. I guess I just like having multiple webpages on one screen so I don't have to move my eyes very much.

There are many times when using my 1080p monitor, I just tell myself, "I want a 4k monitor.."

Anyway, I haven't been following 4k monitor prices very much, but it seems the price has drastically dropped in the past 2 years or so, however, they are still a bit out of my price range.
I think 300 dollars is the most money I'm willing to spend on a computer monitor.

Any guesses when 4k might reach a point where it's cheaper than 300 dollars?
Are there any graphs out there that show the price of a 4k monitor over the past years to show the decline in price?

Anyone else in want of a 4k monitor? Or is all my hype for nothing

After finding out the fans in my CM Storm Trooper Scout case weren't working, I eventually got around to attempting to fixing the issue.
After finding out that everything was plugged in the way it should, I tried plugging the fans into anywhere they would fit.
Turns out that the HDD cage LEDs would fit into the fan pins...
Upon turning my computer on, I heard a kind of whine sound, figured it was the CPU fan. Looked over, and my computer was billowing out smoke like you wouldn't believe.
I quickly ripped the power cable right out of the PSU.
It was around 2AM at the time and I was afraid the fire alarm in my hallway was going to go off.
So I quickly ran to my window, and took my computer case's side-panel to blow the smoke right out of my room.
Luckily, I don't have a fire alarm in my room or the thing would have gone off at 2AM... Good morning, Mom and Dad.

The next day, I contacted Cooler Master's support team, claiming that I needed a new I/O unit, and I would not make them pay for my stupidity. They sent me a new one with no hesitation at no charge and the fans in my computer are spinning in all their glory now.

Poledancerz got a reaction from Askew in Battery "Breakthrough" anytime soon?
So in my opinion, the worst thing about a mobile device is the battery life on it. Sure, it's enough to get me through the day, but if I forget to charge it one night, I'm going to be totally screwed the next day.
It's just a pain to have to charge something after approximately 6 hours of use and it be completely useless (when not plugged in). I feel like the battery life of things is definitely the "bottleneck" in my satisfaction about it.

So I was wondering if there has been any news about something that is capable of storing energy (preferably rechargeable) that is way beyond what we have currently have?
I have tried doing a bit of searching my own, but either nothing has been coming out, or I just suck at making Googles.

(Just a side-note... I'm not complaining about battery life, just wondering if it's ever going to get improved. The fact that I have a device that can add 50 + 25 and spurt out the answer in a millisecond still blows my mind)

The only thing that I can think of, is when you made the switch to the new SSD, you could have forgotten drivers to allow the Ethernet connection work.
Try doing a search on your motherboard, you should be able to find the drivers for it in no time.

Are you sure it's your CPU making noise? My computer is basically dead silent on idle (browsing and such) with a stock crappy intel cooler. Check to see if that's really the cause of the noise.

That headset seems like exactly what I was talking about. Thank you very much for your post, I greatly appreciate it. If someone else doesn't come out with something else, this is what I will most likely be getting. My only complaint that I have about it judging from the pictures is the microphone doesn't seem to fold up.
EDIT: The microphone does fold up :3. Perfect. Thank you very much.

Poledancerz reacted to TopplesS in What's a good headset with a built-in microphone?
Logitech G930 and Corsair Vengeance 2000 are regular contenders for 'best wireless headset'. As everyone is well aware their sound quality is questionable however it's perfectly adequate for gaming and your chats. I personally have the G930 and it has suited me perfectly, I'm no audiophile either. The mic makes life easier has it is able to be swung out of the way and automatically mutes when up.

Do a quick Google and you can find reviews on either headset quite easily, including some direct comparisons.

If they are out of your budget then you can pick up some REALLY cheap rubbish which sound positively terrible but are easier on your back pocket. Wireless headsets tend to be more expensive than their wired counterparts so just have a shop around to see what suits you.

    So much thermal paste....

I received this video card from RMA, noticed the temps were lame, so changing the paste was a must. I also decided to take pictures and share a "How To" :]

Let's start with the Before and After temperature screen shots. I ran Unigine Valley benchmark for 10 minutes during each test with a fixed GPU fan speed of 46% in a sealed case with under-volted case fans.

    Before: clicky 73C

    After: clicky 63C

    10C lower core temperature :]

    How To starts here...

    Supplies:
    Cotten Swabs
    Coffee Filters
    99% Isopropyl Alcohol
Non-Conductive, Carbon Based TIM (DO NOT USE metal based TIMs unless you understand the risks.)

Hi. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm very inexperienced with computers... Trying to learn though .
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone was aware of 12gbps (or just higher than 6gbps) SATA will come out anytime soon.
I have noticed that solid state drives have already pushed to the max potential for SATA, and I saw some SSDs for PCI slots with ridiculously fast read/write speeds.

I'm almost sure that this technology will come out.... Eventually... How long has SATA 6gbps been out for?
