Nothing serious, only an aesthetic issue really, it's very common and is just an inherent situation that comes of how GPUs are fitted into an a standard ATX PC case.
 
Backplates will help prevent it, as it increases the rigidity of the PCB.

AMD is high on its heels with the launch of Radeon Rx 200 series GPUs, though we are still waiting for the flagship Radeon R9 290X to be released. In the meantime, NVIDIA already announced the R9 290X killer as it may sound, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. I think you're getting your terms mixed up a bit.
Stream processors - The cores on AMD cards. For example the 7970 has 2048 stream processors.
CUDA cores - The cores on Nvidia's GPUs. For example the 680 has 1536 CUDA cores.
 
CUDA - APIs (both low level and high level) which enables you to use GPGPU.
OpenCL - APIs which enables you to use GPGPU.
 
Of course there is more to it than that, but you seem to think that stream processors is somehow related to CUDA, which they aren't. Both has their benefits and drawbacks, and it would be better if OpenCL could overtake CUDA at everything because it's an open standard and not locked to AMD specifically (unlike CUDA which is locked to Nvidia) but you still to take into consideration that some programs which can use CUDA might perform better on Nvidia GPUs. None of the benchmarks you linked uses CUDA (as far as I know) so you don't really see the benefit of CUDA in those benchmarks. That does not mean there are no programs that use CUDA though. Here are a few programs which can use CUDA:
Lots of Adobe applications like Photoshop and Premiere.
Folding@Home
Octane Render
ElcomSoft Lightning Hash Cracker
 
If the programs you use in your research were made for CUDA, then you would be better off with an Nvidia GPU. If your programs uses OpenCL, then you *might* be better of with an AMD GPU. It varies from application to application so you can't really make generalizations like that.

The R9 290X will cost 650$-700$, mark my words... We always get ripped off with those $->€ conversions ...
