DailyProcrastinator reacted to seon123 in can you mix cables from modular power supplies?
    *Facepalm*
Just because they fit, that does mean that they are wired up the same way. One brand may have 12V where another has GND. That won't work.
Even if it does fit another place on the same PSU, that might also not be compatible. I know some Thernaltake PSUs have that issue. You can plug in some cables where you're not supposed to.

Reading everything said above, I would bet any money that you couldn't even tell the difference if you were gaming with an i5-8400 or an R5 2600. Secondly, I will back up the advice of those recommending AMD Ryzen over Intel. You mentioned you went with a Z390 motherboard for upgradability, the Z390 is most likely the end of the line for Intel's current consumer platform so at the most you can get an i7-9700k or i9-9900k, but for the money, it really makes no sense. If you want a better upgrade path then you would go with AMD, with promised AM4 support through to 2020 we will likely see 2 more generations of Ryzen CPU's and if leaked info is any indication of what is to come you probably will regret going the Intel route. Even if the leaked info we are getting on the new Zen architecture doesn't hold completely true you still have a better upgradeability path.

Seems like some things are quite overpriced there. Just put the prices of them in to googles currency converter and the TX550M and Be Quiet Pure Power 10 400W works out to be about $110 USD.

If there any any other stores you can buy from locally maybe check what units they have available and see if they have better prices?

"but that VS450 is not a terrible PSU"? I think you might have started to write "is not a good PSU" then changed the sentence to "Is a terrible PSU" mid way through...?

@Alan GE As said above 450W is enough, but that VS450 is a terrible PSU, one of the worst out there, I would get a better quality PSU.

I recommend Tier 3 or higher:

450W is more than enough. If anything, the PCPP list will be overestimating how much you need, though it tends to be more accurate than other wattage calculators I've seen.

I would get a better unit though, like the CX450M.

Slightly over budget but I have had this mouse for 2 years and it is the best mouse I have had, even against a Razer Naga I used to have, and my Logitech gaming mice. That said not everyone likes MMO mice.

DailyProcrastinator got a reaction from Ohmsnut22 in Is this power supply good?
80+ is an efficiency rating, nothing to do with quality. Just because a PSU is 80+ bronze or better doesn't mean it's any good at all. You can buy shit 80+ bronze, gold, and platinum PSU's. 80+ refers to how efficient a PSU is and not how well it is made and the quality of components. Just because a PSU is 'efficient' does not mean it won't have bad voltage ripple or parts that can fail easily.

    Love that joke haha!

    @Ohmsnut22If you are on a budget I recommend the Corsair CM450x. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FQ648d/corsair-power-supply-cp9020101na
If you can spend a little more look at the following. EVGA G3 or G2, SeaSonic Prime or Focus series, or the Corsair RMx PSU.

The PSU tier list is you PSU bible, Tier 1 representing the best quality PSU's:

You're safe leaving them in, I always do just to keep the unused ports dust free. Although depending on your case I would remove them then re-insert them after the GPU has been installed as they can get caught behind the metal shroud of the case and they are not removable unless you take out your GPU. If that makes sense.

My grandmother is also 80+ but she has never used a computer in her lifetime ?

80+ bronze or better is what you should be looking for. And even then, some are just not very good for different reasons. Do some research on what the 80+ standard is and you'll see what I'm talking about

DailyProcrastinator got a reaction from axido in Corsair TX750W on a future threadripper/i9 build
As others have said 750W is enough but that is an old model PSU and not of the greatest build quality. I highly recommend spending the extra $30-$50 and getting a good quality PSU. I recommend the EVGA G2 or G3, SeaSonic Prime or Focus series, or the Corsair RMx. These are some of the best quality PSU's on the market. And buying a cheap PSU is not worth it, voltage ripple alone can kill components and the TR CPU's draw a ton of power so not worth the risk.

Pretty common to see on a lot of motherboards, just push the RAM down towards the side without the latch just before clicking it in on the side that has a latch.

1080 Ti's are pretty much not available at established retailers in Canada anymore, hence the $1,300cad price tag. Most prices are from 3rd party sellers on Amazon and Newegg, so not reflationary of the true cost if you live in Canada. I bought my EVGA SC 1080 Ti Black Edition for like $900 shortly after launch. If you are in other countries they can still be found at retail, otherwise used is your only option for a 1080 Ti.
