Non X chips use less wattage than the X versions do so they run cooler and use less power too.
I have one of those boards and it's good, a bit weak on the VRM side (For my tastes) but should still be able to run an X chip as long as you can keep the VRM's cool and looks like you've had no problems with yours.

All the above suggestions are valid, 5800X3D is the best path without a total rebuild of the system BUT you also have to be sure your board supports it before buying, that being important so you're not stuck with a chip your current board can't use.

I'd have to think you've already checked support for it with the board you have but if not:
Check it first, update the BIOS if you have to, then buy the chip and enjoy if you're going to.

i just upgraded from a similar pc like you, b450 with r7 2700 and a rtx 2080. i went for the 5800x for 249 in my country, since the x3d costs around 380. my frames doubled on the games i play, mind you i dont play the newest ones, squad mostly. Having in mind that the non x 7000 series looks pretty compelling, you could go for them, but that means new motherboard and ddr5. compared to the 2700 the 5800x is a great processor, boost to 4.9ghz, it does get a bit toasty on my compact air cooler though

I upgraded from 3700x to 5800x3d zero regrets, if your coming from a 2700 it'll be like a whole new machine, it all depends on how often you upgrade if your planning on keeping this next build for 3+ years and just want it to keep up you could drop in the 5800x3d get most of the performance the currently available 7000's are experiencing and probably skip am5 and build a new when am6 launches because AMD only promised am5 until 2025 that's only 3 years so if you upgrade only every 4 to 5 then by the time you upgrade again you'll have to jump on a new platform regardless with the same platform transition question you having now

    ^^^ this.
If AMD will actually support the platform for 5 years as they did with AM4, this is the obvious choice right now.
I guess a Ryzen 7 7700 "non-X" would be a wiser choice, or even the 7600 "non-X", which should perform a hell of a lot better than the 2700 (despite 25% less cores).

I'm not sure I would run better than a 5600 or 5600X on that board. If you really want a 5800X3D, you're far better off to get a good B550 with a good VRM setup.

If you're going to upgrade to the new platform for Ryzen, check out the reviews of the non-X versions for the 7000 series. But as @AbydosOne said the 5800X3D is the best choice at the moment.

In your situation, drop the 5800x3d in and enjoy life. 7700x will cost a pretty penny, unless you have a Microcenter near.

    7700X is AM5, so go 5800X3D.

The 5700XT is slightly faster, closer to the 2070S in most cases. That being said, both will offer great performance for 1080p Ultra.
I'd just go for whatever you can get for cheaper. If that's the 5700XT, look for the Powercolor Red Dragon and Sapphire Pulse models, also avoid Asus' TUF X3 model and reference blower cooler models too.

Performance is basically the same. I own a 5700XT Saphire Pulse. I also have a 1080P monitor. That being said, both of these cards are really 1440p cards, so at 1080p you shouldn't have any performance issues.

The 5700 XT is notably faster as it competes with the 2070 Super. The equivalent to the 2070 non S is the 5700 non XT. My vote goes towards the 5700 XT Pulse or Red Dragon

Alright thanks. I figured it out for some reason my system doesn't like displayport and when I switched the display over to HDMI my post screen started showing and I was able to get into BIOS.

The one with MSI board. the boards are pretty much the opposite of each other. The MSI board has no optional extras like RGB header, all it has is a solid VRM. same fan headers, some ports, that's it. The Asrock board has RGB headers, has SLI support, has Wifi and BT, but a low end VRM. imo it's like buying a utilitarian vehicle like an old Jeep, versus buying a riced out van.

A friend of mine upgraded from an i5-6500 to the R5 2600 and he doesn't have any framedrops anymore. Heck, he even plays 1440p on a GTX1060 and no stutters anymore, at all. My 2700X has also been smooth sailing in BF V.

The main reason im upgrading is for Battlefield V. So I'm thinking of just going for the 2600.

It can't go on the floor because I live in the barracks and I can't have a computer on the floor.

Have you ever tried or know anyone who has tried the case? I've never heard of the company so I'm just curious.

There is so much more you can do in terms of aesthetics and park design. You can literally spend 2 hours building a toilet building.
Here is a pretty decent review of it:

The GTX 1060 is cheaper, at least in this case, and it actually performs within a few % of a GTX 980. It's consistently faster than a 970.
