soja reacted to TechFan@ic in Intel & AMD, Architectural Discussion, How Far Ahead Is Intel ?
Well guys I've been doing my own research & analysis of the performance of AMD & Intel CPUs for sometime, I did not do tests personally however I tried to salvage as much knowledge as possible to try and answer a question that has been on my mind, which is how far ahead Intel really is? and that question led me to some very interesting realizations.

The discussion will be highly technical and might seem boring to some, I'll start off with the basics & end with the answer to the original question plus several others.

Ok let's begin, first off our discussion will be surrounding AMD's modular Bulldozer/Piledriver architecture & Intel's core series from Westmere to Sandy/Ivy & Haswell.

    The Architectures : AMD Bulldozer/Piledriver

The building block of AMD's modular architecture is not an x86 core, it's an x86 module, this module contains everything that a core contains but with a number of components doubled, these components include the integer scheduler, its datapath, 16KB of L1 DCache & it's own load/store unit.
The doubling of these components is what gives the AMD module essentially two cores/threads.
The integer cores share the early pipeline stages (e.g. L1i, fetch, decode), the floating point unit, and the L2 cache with the rest of the module.

    How this affects performance
Depending on the workload the quad module eight core AMD processors can either perform as eight processing units or as four and this depends entirely on the affinity of the workload to integer or floating point calculations.
If integer calculations are needed there are eight integer pipelines that can be used, however if floating point calculations are needed there are only four.

Hey linus for your next chair review could you go into more detail on sturdiness under weight. Let us know the weight limit, and maybe have luke hold a bag of bricks or something in his lap as he reclines. thanks

Sounds like the CPU option might be better for you right now if your current one is always maxxed out.

Getting both would fix your problems, but if you have to choose one or the other, the CPU/mobo/ram option will help you the most if you dont mind on delaying your GPU performance.

By pure value alone, I would go with option 1, particularly if you are maxing it out all the time.

If you stream during gaming, the cpu upgrade is what i would take.

The problem was that some shirts were printed with the tech being red instead of orange. My shirt ended up like this and I contact nick for assistance on what to do.

Welp, 2d had a ton of stuff that could've been cut out, and 2e has a ton of stuff that should've been left in. Would've liked to see more of Linus and Luke installing the CPU blocks. And the reactions to each other's builds! How the hell was that cut out!?

Was really hoping to hear @Slick's snarky comments about Linus's build.

The selfmade WC gear is IMHO much more interesting than just buying used stuff. I'd be interested in a review of the selfmade parts to see how good they are compared to regular WC gear.

Sorry LTT group, but the final episode was a bit underwhelming. Would have been nice to see the scoring broken down and Linus and Luke's reaction to each others builds.

Lol, I thought the max for Edzel was 20 mins, and here we are with 21 minutes of goodness. I actually wouldn't have minded this also in 2 parts. 1 full part for finishing the builds and 1 full part for the jury. Since now the jury bit felt a bit cramped, and I very much missed Lukes reaction to linus' build and visa versa. But I understand that they have to finish the series at some point...
And as stated before, seeing the preformance of Linus' custom block would be interesting, it certainly looked very proffesionally (ish) done.

I spent $280 on CoD Ghosts because I bought it on Xbox 360 and Xbox One and season passes for both.

The day it came out too.

Then I only played it for an hour

    That was seriously retarded

Like I have seen from others, my only complaint with Vessel so far is the video quality. We already use highly compressed videos everywhere, but vessel's HD "on" toggle brings it up to what, a 2400kbps video? That is less than high quality twitch streams. Bandwidth isn't THAT expensive, and a simple bump up to 3500kbps and offering 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4k, would be a welcome addition to the platform.

I'm all for supporting LMG through different avenues, and I think vessel is a great way to do so after some changes on their end!

Thanks so much for joining. My vision is a community based on positive member interaction and helping each other. I believe that if we all work together toward this goal, we will have success in the long run.
We don't have official forum rules or anything like that yet, but as long as everyone is respectful of each other, and patient with the growing pains that we are going to experience (vBulletin 5 is VERY beta right now) we can make this into an AWESOME community forum.
